Way too much gunk in throttle body/Supercharger..NOT good

I've been noticing the pronounced stuttering while accelerating and deaccelerating in first and second, sometimes even third. After researching my ass off on the topic (yay me), I decided to take off the throttle body and do some major cleaning. Well, the throttle body was near black when i took it off. I made sure not to move the butterfly valve, and cleaned with a cotton rag and q-tips. Got it spotless and shiny and then I went to put it back on the supercharger. Well, what I saw was NOT good. Inside the supercharger there was even more gunk and dirt, all of which looks like it more than likely has been entering my engine, causing the amount of black soot crap on the innside of my exhaust tip.

Heres the photos, where the dark line is is basically as far as I could get my hand inside to clean.

Should I be worried? Should I halt driving until I can pull the supercharger and clean it? I noticed today my driver's side wheel well plastic has a very substantial crack in it, to the point where there is a hole. Thus my intake w/ airbox mod could be sucking up more than just air. Just not sure where to go from here..

How many miles you at? The blower comes from the factory as a 'maitenance free' unit. I got a good amount of gunk in mine too and am not too worried about it. My throttle body also gets that dirty everyones does

I would definitely clean that. can not be good for the bearings on the rotors or pushing that gunk into your intake manifold.

Clean it and carry on.

Looks completely normal for a blower that has never been taken off and cleaned.

The stock PCV system vents oil vapor and such back into the induction system.

This is why I clean my throttle body once a year as general maintenance.

A little over 43k, I didn't know if I should be worried about sucking all that crap in the motor

When you say clean do you recommend pulling the supercharger off, disassemble, full clean, and reassembly? I would then have to re oil the supercharger, correct? Or should I leave how I've cleaned it in the pictures and call it a day, checking in the future for more build up around the TB?

Have you cleaned the supercharger? Do you recommend it as well, or should I just leave it and stick with cleaning the TB every year?

I havent needed to clean my blower yet. Always looks fairly clean. I only have about 20k on my H62, so the buildup hasnt taken over yet.

I usually just clean my TB and the very start of the inlet of the blower. In your case, you can clean up your supercharger. Wont hurt anything.

Has anyone had experience with cleaning the supercharger? I've never dealt with forced induction, is it difficult to remove, disassemble, clean, etc?

Not hard to take apart at all.

Drain the blower oil (they sell kits for this), unbolt the snout from the housing, and pull the rotor pack out. Piece of cake.

Looks like I'm going to have to attempt this. Is the kit essential? If necessary, I can buy that when I buy the supercharger oil online, everythings cheaper on the internet.

The kit they sell is on E-bay for like $40.

Comes with everything you need:

- tube/pump to remove used blower oil, & to inject new oil.
- new genuine eaton coupler (prob should look into the zzp coupler though).
- snout reseal

You could prob rig something up with a turkey baster, and a piece of hose to remove/inject the blower oil.

If you can, you won't need to buy the kit, and will prob save money. I wanted to give ya some options.

i have only cleaned mine about as far as you have; i don't think it would be worth taking the whole thing apart to clean it

Thanks for the info, what differs between the zzp and eaton coupler variants?

I just flipped the blower upside down and dumped oil out and then funneled it full by flipping it the other way.

If you have a day to work on the car just take the whole intake system off and clean.

The ZZP coupler is made of better material. The Eaton coupler is know for loosing shape over time which causes the famous "rocks in a tin can" sound.

If you have the blower apart this would be a good item to change.

lol thats surprisingly clean for a car that still has its EGR and PCV systems hooked up. Just make sure you dont use any solvents that are reactive with teflon, otherwise you will make the coating peel off the rotors.

The rotors are not coated in teflon on the Gen V Eaton blowers.

It is an abradable coating.
