So driving today with my buddies im warming up the car and my CEL is on. I was like crap i wonder what it is now. So it goes to my local shop tomorrow hopefully for them to tell me it is the catalyic converter. if its a lean code because of my intake i really dont know what im going to do. so yeah just letting you guys know about my situation. More updates will come tomorrow.

 

got the infamous lean code on my car. so what do you all think i should do? iam not going to go to the dealer and there isnt really anything that i can do other than wait right? im either going to buy stage one to get my ecu reflashed and upgraded or buy a scan gage. what do you guys think is the best bet and also will running it wit a cel ruin anything? thanks.

 

I got the same thing 0171 lean code, it won't hurt anyting as far as your car goes. You wont pass inspection with the CEL on tho I can tell you that (at least not in New York state) and if you clear your codes and you don't have the 40 in your history as you're supposed to because of the clear, that will fail youon an inspection as well, (in NY) It varies some from state to state. Outside of that won't cause you any issues, and from what I'm hearing it will come and go. But it annoys the hell out of me.

 

thanks boss. so i guess stage one or two is in my near future. i need an inspection by may or june. soooooo theres another 500 into my car but hey at least its money well spent.

 

how long have your intakes been on before the code showed up?

 

how cold is it in your area ? I got the CEL when it was 10* out once it went back up to 30 it went away and hasnt come back since.

 

It was pretty cold.... teens-20ish range I would say, and WNDY.

 

i have a question if anyone can help me out i got a 07 cobalt ss and the stock catalyic converter is coming apart on the inside would it be wise or unwise to hollow it out untill i can get the money together to get an upgraded exaughst
