I'd say it was the belt or belt tensioner, but you said ti goes away when driving.

Well its hard to tell I may not be able to hear it just because of road noise. I don't think it has anything to do with the belts though.

Yes, as far as he knows.. Did I need to specify that?
He couldn't be for certain, because of engine and road noise..

40k Miles, Noise mostly originates from the left side of the valve cover. I've heard something about a timing chain tensioner making noise could that be my problem?

Every lsj should put in the revised timing chain tensioner before stuff like this happens. Sounds are hard to diagnose over the Internet but to me it sounds like the timing chain tensioner is bad.

That's what I was thinking too. So what do you think would be the best way to get this fixed get it diagnosed and do it myself? Since the bumper to bumper only goes to 36k miles?

I would save yourself the time and frustration with going to the dealer. Order the new tensioner from crate engine depot, unbolt old tensioner, put in new one......pretty simple and straight forward there is a how to on here as well.

Ecotec Timing Chain Tensioner 12608580 - Crate Engine Depot

What's the temperature in your area? Mine will do that when it"s below 50F, until the engine warms up.

Just because your engine makes that sound to doesn't mean it's normal. My engine sounds perfect no matter what the temperature outside

could also very well be a lash adjuster or rocker backing off... valve noise and things like that normally get quieter as the engine warms up.

Timing chain tensioner ..... like someone said above . Make sure you take the valve cover off when you install the new one so you can engage the tensioner . Some people will say it's not nesassay but I would take the chance of installing it collapsed and hoping in engages the right way.

There is no setting the revised tensioner like the original tensioner. The new tensioner applies tension with oil pressure not a spring like the old one.

Unless their are three revisions of the tensioner ..... I accidentally released the revised tesioner when i pulled it out of the box ...... even the old tensioner worked on oil pressure but both have springs in them from stopping a compete collapse when the engine is turned off (IE no oil pressure)
