weird whining

this isn't coming from the engine bay. i can hear it all the time in the cabin of the car. when i try to hear around for it, it sounds like it's coming from around the rear axal. Do our fuel pumps tend to whin at all? if not has anyone else ever had this problem

doesn't seem to be effecting anything. the sound is just starting to get to me.

ideas?

its loudest at idle. seems to quiet down when i hit the gas. if i'm still moving and put it in netural the noise comes back.

don't think that it has anything to do with the tranny since i'm not having any problems with the shifting

Look through all my posts. I have one of the fuel pump whining.

See if it matches what your hearing.

Sounds like a fuel pump issue. Does it change if you have a full tank as opposed to an empty tank?

Change your fuel filter in the last 30K miles?

OEM filter? It's possible it's flowing too much/too little causing the pump to operate in a different speed range and now it's at a frequency where it makes noise.

The fuel system uses the fuel filter as a bypass style regulator, it has one in and two outlets, so the pump normally runs pretty close to full blast, with the extra passing through the filter and back into the tank via the pressure regulator on the pump assembly. If it's not an AC Delco filter, I would change it for one and see if the noise continues. If it does, you may have gotten some crap inside the tank and it finally worked its way into the pump, no option there but to replace the fuel pump or deal with the noise.

Yes OEM filter.
It started making the noise next time it was driven, but no more gas was added until the following day.
