Went haywire on the highway!!!
Can anyone help me figure out what happened to my car yesterday? I redline in 3rd on the highway not payin attention, and "bucked" once, the rev limiter drops straight to zero, I can't give it any gas, and when I rolled onto a ramp nearby shut it off, it wouldnt start back up, it would just sputter and die. Rolled it to a empty drive way, tried startin it yet it still wouldnt start up just sputter sputter bleh.......15 minute's later I try once more it STARTS!!! lol what a relief, but could it possible I did some internal damage?

Could have gone into power reduction mode.
Sometimes the ECM does that. Try and unhook the battery for a few minutes to reset the ECM.
If its running fine now I would assume the engine is fine.

Gimp Mode Strikes Again!!!!
Yeah, the ECU put u in reduced power mode so as not to 'hurt' the engine. It happened to me when i forgot to reconnect an air sensor after an oil change. Its just one of those gay 'safety' systems GM put into the car.

I could also be the crank position sensor going. I have heard of that problem a few times, and I have bumped my rev limiter a number of times as I autox most every weekend, and never had that problem.

I had my CPS go out after I bumped the rev limiter one time. I never saw it say eng pwr red on the DIC but it ran like crap after. Did the same thing as yours- wouldn't crank then finally did after about 10 mins. But mine wouldn't run right after. It was really sluggish.

As for your car not restarting right away, every once in a while when I start my car it will start and die because of the temperature overnight and in the morning is at or below 0 in the winter time here. If I turn the key right away it won't restart, I have to let it sit for a minute before restarting it....don't know why....just fyi your not alone

Nope, you popped a code put it in to Limp Mode.... happend to me too, it's a flaw in the ECU on some models of Cobalt SS/SC's with Intakes you maxed out the Hz frequency in the ECU causing it to kill the motor as to protect it from damage!
It takes it a bit to calm its self down a little, and the restarts and drives like normal... just go get a code reader find out what it is and delete it!

It is an engine safeway... if you do something dumb or over rev the motor.... anything that the ECU doesn't feel is normal or good for the car it basically shuts it off!
Cuts fuel to the motor, keeping you from destroying the car! Now with 06 SS/SC's with Intakes there is something with the MAF frequency under certain conditions will max it out causing it to think the motor is going 7000 RPMs and freaks it out doing the same thing!
Basically it is just an ECU Engine Safegaurd
