What is this noise?

Was heading back to work yesterday and when I got off the interstate there was a bit of smoke coming out from under the hood. I pull over in the gas station and here this noise sounds like scraping maybe. I checked the oil it was a quart low. No clue why since its not leaking and Ive never lost oil. I replaced the quart and now it doesn't smoke but noise is still there not as noticeable at sometime. Any help would be great thanks.

There is an accepted oil-consumption rate of 1 quart/2000 miles. This consumption occurs when a piston moves down its cylinder and a thin film of oil is left on the cylinder wall. During the power stroke, part of this oil layer is consumed in the combustion process. As a result, varying rates of oil consumption are accepted as normal in all engines.
If I can be of any further assistance (unfortunately, I'm unable to help diagnose the sound you're hearing
), please let me know!

thanks for the help so far. I thought about the tensioner but the one that is on is only 8 months old new style from GM new. I remember when the old one "old style advance auto brand" went bad after only 4-5 months it was more of a chatter noise.
