What are some common problems with 08-09?
Besides the charge air pipe that pops loose and the paint that rubs off on the bottom of the doors, what other common problems should I look for before buying a new 09 SS/TC?
Rear rotors are notorious for going bad quick...stock Conti's aren't that great. As far as annoyances, the typical squeaks and rattles, and a very knocky sounding transmission (methinks it's the clutch plate smashing around in that bitch, lol)
havnt had problems with mine. Conti's are going quick becuase 260 ponies like to spin those bitches. I just rotated them so ill get more time out of them. Other then that, my car seems pretty solid built. Only problem I have is a little sunroof rattler when the plastic slider is open.
Only problems I have had on my 08', weren't really problems...but squeeky brakes (fronts fixed by dealership in some sort of recall)...rear rotors are looking pretty scarred...heard about the charge piping issue, but haven't had problems yet on that...and then VERY slight oil leak from near fuel pump (also fixed by dealership...
its still a cobalt lol
and for the price your still going to get a cobalt.
dont get me wrong its a great car.
but its not going to keep its resale value nearly as much as a VW or something like that now a days.
=)
i can argue this all day if anyone wants to go, dont be buthurt about ur buying decisions.

VW's have horrible reliability, yet automotive journalists keep on praising them. I'd rank all VW's and Audi's about on-par with the most problematic American cars - I speak from personal experience dealing with those POS's. The biggest difference is that VW/Audi look great from the outside and inside and are used as status symbols, so people justify their purchase decisions in many different ways.
Me? I'll take a powerful engine and a well tuned chassis over Alcantara leather a-pillar trimming any day of the week. The LNF seems to almost rival Ford's 4.6L 3V V8 once you install GM's Turbo Upgrade kit: 290 hp / 340 ft-lb. The Mustang GT's V8 only makes 300 hp / 320+ ft-lb, but it is gutless below 3000 RPM.

no lift-hulk-shift
So. I went from first to second so hard that I bent the shifter internals. I missed second and haven't been able to "find" it since. 3rd is sitting where neutral USED to be. I'm sitting in a dealer as I'm writing this on my phone. I don't know what went wrong yet. Update soon.
0h. 08 SS TC.
i put the blame entirely on blackberry for my retarded post earlier.
so it was a shift cable. it bent. warranty covered it. wont be here til tuesday. i think ill just hit the bottle until then. *sigh*

To me, shifting hard is a sign that the gearbox/shifter is a POS. On a BMW, Porsche, or Audi, the shifter motion is fluid and precise. I was shocked at the rubbery and vague shifter on the 09 SS/TCs compared to my 07 Mustang GT. However, I did not find it too difficult to shift the 09 SS/TC around the city roads.
I noticed my shifter to be short, but not all that easy to put into gears. The 3-4 shift is by far the easiest and if they all felt like that it would be sex. Unfortunatly this is why i will eventually want a STS
Normally can't hear it when I shift from 1st to 2nd, but it is EXTREMELY noticeable as soon as I shift from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. The noise doesn't happen until I am just about to depress the clutch just as I slide it all the way into each gear (like towards the end of each shift).
It is extremely noisy and it bothers me like hell. Makes the co-workers laugh as we go to lunch each day because my car only has 3,000 miles on it.
Does this happen with anyone else?
The part that I bolded... I'd describe it as a clunk/knock as well. I am just wondering if you're referring to what I am hearing. I was going to bring it up as I'm at the dealer for my next oil change, but I wanna make sure that we are talking about the same thing.

Also, my brembos are very squeaky. Does anybody else have this problem? And for the grooved rear rotors everybody has, is there a dealer recall or fix yet?
