When did you bring yours in for its first service?
Im just curious, I guess the dealership put some long lasting synthetic in my engine cuz im at about 6000 miles now with a good 25% left on the oil life according to the in dash computer. When did you bring yours in for its first service?

yea.. those oil life things are dumb. i was telling my dad i am goin to bring it in at 8000KM. but he was like just go by the oil life thing and i was like...well i dont think its accurate..anyways in the end its at 0% at 15000..and the dealership said i shoulda brought it in at 8000KM li eki told my dad...so yea...oing story short just bring it in between 6000km and 8000km...

i did mine @ 6400 miles... the meter sayd 19%... the oil was still in pretty good shape to, i was expecting black, black oil... but it wasnt... after the first oil change the oil life doesnt last nearly as long, maybe it getting itself right after the first change

Mine was the same way. I change at every 5k regardless of the meter but i check it anyway. Ive done 4 oil changes so far and everytime it gets closer to 0% by 5k. I think its self ajusting

you will get about 12,000km (SS/SC with Mobil 1) or more on the factory oil. This is so the same oil is in the engine thoughout the break in period. Then you will get between
5000Km and 9000km every oil change depending on many variants such as local tempurature, your driving habits and quality of the gasoline used.
But this only applies to the SS/SC's I don't knpw how long the oil lasts in 2.2 or 2.4.
I assume that both of those have a longer then normal intervule before the first oil change.
But then probalbly get closer to the norm after that.

If you are running Mobil 1 you can go at least 5000m before changing. I have used Mobil 1 in my other cars with no problems at all. Changing Mobil 1 at 3000m is just wasting money.

But after 3k mile oil changes have been hammered into the public for so long, it's hard to get them to change.

bringing this thread back...
im getting close to 3k miles on the stock oil... it is no where near 0% i think its still over 65%. I'm thinking about switching it out at 3,000 miles.
when are you getting yours changed? is there any evidence that the oil % in the car is correct/wrong? let me know.
i know a guy that has a gtp and he didn't change his until it was really close to 0%, which doesn't sound like a good idea. i'll probably be getting it changed at 3k reguardless.
anyone have any thoughts/comments?

Here goes........
I'm planning on getting my first change done at about 3,000. After that Mobil 1 can go up to 12,000 mls before a change. I won't do that with the SS Supercharged, but I did in my Land Rover Freelander and it's got 88,000 and sounds fine.
I'll prolly go 6,000 between changes - Mobil 1 all the way.......and a good filter too.

Mobile 1 synthetic is good oil. 5000-6000 between changes is good. Though at 3 changing the filter is a good idea. Tis what I do on my T/A and I've not seen any substantial oil usage, considering from day 1 it uses about half a quart every 3K. And I use royal purple in the reccomended weight.

Yep...the car is at the shop now getting it changed with about 2950 miles on it. I'm going to play it safe and get it changed every 3k. Might as well, it's my baby!

I did my own first oil change at 3k so I Could switch over to Mobil1. I have since learned AMSOIL is actually better than Mobil1.
As far as oil life monitors they are extremely accurate and with the use of synthetics you can easily go 8k on an oil change. Amsoil actually allows you to go 25K on an oil change. So dont talk out of your ass saying their inaccuarate when you have no proof

I have a 05 with 15,706 an my olm is at 58%. I get my oil changed like every 6k or so. This will be my 3rd oil change coming up. I hate 3k oil changes its a waste of money even my used cars got oil changes around 5k...

I'm at 3200 miles now... the plan was to bring her in at 3000... but my damn parts still haven't shown up....
so, whenever the parts come in, she'll go in for an oil change too...
