I just want to know what symptoms you had. Im losing coolant, changed the oil and it looks normal, no smokey exhuast, no performance loss at all.

my car ran fine but every once in a while i'd get the low coolant light. checked it and it was only down about an inch. a week or so later it did it again a few times.
left my DIC on coolant temp just in case. at 36,000km on a drive home one day doing 65mph i noticed the temperature raise to 110C. before anything happened i immediately pulled over and shut the car off.
popped the hood and it was hot. checked the resevoir and it was empty. there were no visable leaks or spray anywhere. nothing came out of the exhaust either. checked the dipstick and it looked somewhat ok from what i could see.
popped the oil fill cap off and saw a bunch of moisture droplets on it.
had car towed in by GM, rental was given to me. three days later they called and said they sent my oil sample in for analysis. a day later they said engine was done and that they were shipping a new one from the US. 7 days total and a free rental car later, i had my car back with a new engine broke it in properly and haven't had a problem since.
hope that helps!
goodluck!
P.S. if you have the same problem and you end up getting the engine replaced, the car will seem slower for the first few thousand miles. once it's broken in it will get it's ***** back

I was just informed by my local dealer that I have a cracked block in my 08 sky redline and that it was covered by a technical service bulletin. They are replacing the engine. Does anyone have a copy of the TSB for this? I've searched for a while and cannot find it.

I own a '08 SS/TC. My car had a bad block in my car back in the September of 2011 @ 54k miles. It kept burning the coolant. I went through 3 gallons of Dex- cool in 2 days. At that point, I knew I had to take it in My Chevy dealer took the car in, and a week later I had my car back. It was covered under warranty, and Chevy replaced the head, and gaskets. My car usually runs @ 194-198, but lately it's been running hotter around town... 199- 205(will get 210 @ a red light). These temps concern me now that I'm @ 95k miles. I use my car daily for work. How good are the 2.0 turbo motors on these cars? Is it the head that's cast aluminum, or the whole motor?

Yea. A few of us were "lucky" enough 2 get pourous blocks in our car. 210 is when the fans cut on right? I believe 220+ is overheating the block? 248 is really high for a Balt, and not have any issues.

once it hit 230F i pulled over and shut the car off. usually the warning light coming on is the "too late" light

Remember that members have access to TSBs. Maybe you can look it up. Not sure, but worth a try at least.

I looked at that, I couldn't find anything pertaining to the problem, It must be one of those super secret TSBs for obvious reasons, or they havent released the full list of TSB's
:/ Man dude, this sure would help

My car used to drink more coolant than it did fuel It had cracked piston rings and the timing chain exploded 3 months out of warranty so never got to figure out the coolant issue.
No problems with the new engine I bought
