It's not a good idea long term, once in a while shouldn't hurt too much. But why change gears? Isn't the point of buying an automatic so that you DON'T have to change gears......

My friend screwed up his transmission from a sentra doing that. lol, I guess you live and learn eh? I useda do it once in a while with my mom's car, back when i first got my license

The only reason you should ever take that shifter below "D" is for climbing or decending hills, or if you're crazy enough, towing a trailer. Limit it to that, and you'll be fine.
