Wiper relay causing major engine misfires
Wiper relay causing major engine misfires
Hi everyone. I was hoping to get a little insight on a problem that I have never come across before. A friend of mine has an 07 cobalt LS. The CEL came on one day, so we scanned it. It came up with a lean code and and a misfire code. All of a sudden it started shifting hard and hesitating a little. I put in new plugs and front O2 sensor, since the car was at 100,000 miles. I also checked the fuel pressure, which seemed fine. Eventually it got so bad that it would barely run. I suspected water in the fuel (his gas cap was broken and fell off when I opened the gas door), so I drained the tank and put new gas, then I swapped the injectors from a totaled car at my work. Here's the weird part...
I accidentally hit the wiper switch. wipers turn on, but won't turn off, even when I turn the key off. They also go at the same speed no matter which setting. To get them to stop I pulled the relay. When I did this the engine revved up briefly and started running perfectly. When I plug the relay back in, engine sounds like its running on 2 cylinders.
Does anybody have a clue to what could be going on here? I really do appreciate any suggestions. This car is much different than my 1987 diesel mercedes. Thanks in advance.
