Yeah I hate those oily shiny dashes. Whenever I see a nasty shiny dash, I think it looks like something from the 70s.

Anyway, supposedly one of the reasons for the hard plastic dash in the Cobalt (and most newer cars too) was that its supposedly more resistant to the warping and cracking that has plagued GM cars for decades. I'm not sure if this is true or just sales hype, but I'm not taking any chances. I use one of those sunshades whenever I'm parked, even in the winter. UV = Bad!!

Both of my previous cars(sunbird and camaro) had very cracked warped dashes due to the fact that they were made of foam. I dont think ill have any of that with this car tho.

Ok, I am going to have to present the other side here, clearly I can't tell you that you should like a shiny dash, although I think it looks cleaner. But the shine does help reflect the sunlight, in any case here is a refutation straight from armorall.com:

What are the ingredients in Armor All® Protectants? Do they include silicone, alcohol, ultraviolet inhibitors and petroleum distillates?
Armor All® Leather Care contains lanolin and natural moisturizers, and UV inhibitors. Armor All® Leather Care Protectant Spray and Leather Wipes contain water-based silicone emulsions, surfactants, and ultraviolet light inhibitors. Armor All® Original Shine Protectant contains water-based silicone emulsions, surfactants, and ultraviolet light inhibitors, humectants, dispersants and gloss enhancers. Armor All® Ultimate Clean Protectant contains water-based silicone emulsions, surfactants, ultraviolet light inhibitors and a fragrance.

I am not trying to say that armorall is the best, although I use it, and my father has for many years without troubles. But we have only heard one side, and I am interested in what is best for my car.

What does everyone make of this?

OK. Since those kind of products tend to dry out vinyl and leather, then is there any way to restore leather back to the supple feel that it had when the car was first purchased? I am (was) one of those who used armor all products on the interior to clean and protect it; or at least I thought.
