Liquid clay bar is more of a polish than a true clay, from what I've been told.
I don't think there is such thing as a "best" clay bar. There are varying levels of clay bars. Ones that are there to remove heavy surface contamination, and ones to remove light surface contamination.
Clay Magic, Meguiars, Sonus, etc, most detailing companies have their own line of clay. But the OTC stuff should work fine. But make sure buy a kit with clay and quick detailer. Car soap is fine as lubricant in a pinch, but it apparently causes the clay to break down.
I've used Meguiars Quick Clay kit and had great success. Another trick, spray the area your working on with QD, clay the area, then take a place your hand in a ziploc bag and run your fingertips over the area you just clayed. The plastic will allow you to feel any missed particles that are still bonded to the paint. This will allow you to get the surface close to completely free of contamination.
But remember, clay is still an abrasive. Once the clay starts getting dirty, knead the bar until a clean surface appears. And watch out for any large particles that get wedged in the clay. Last thing you want to do is leave nice long scratches in your paint surface.
Happy detailing

water alone wont provide enough lubrication. You really should use a quick detailer/clay lube or at least a mixture of soap/water.
And to answer the original question, most clay is going to be the same. Clay magic is perfectly fine to use. I have a few bars on the site if you prefer to order some w/ the discount

i use the meguir kit. love it. i've tried the liquid clay bar, and didn't think that it was anywhere near as good, and i noticed that you had to scrub a LOT more, and i still didn't get as good results. just from my experience though.

I could ask first what is that you are trying to accomplish, with the clay bar ;
The detail clay will remove embedded brake dust and fallout that penetrates the clear coat or paint as well as over spray.
Now if you have road grime, light oxidization and tar.
The Pre Wax Cleanser will be your product.
Clay Bars are a great tool, however all do a lot of people think that a clay bar is a clay bar and that all of them are the same they are not, you must be aware that there’s different types of Clay bars which differ in color and density but what is most important the type and amount of abrasive particles they contain. All clay bars will be labeled from "mild" to "strong" abrasive quality, it depends on the manufactor. Also good to know is that, If the clay bar is dropped it must be discarded otherwise some serious damage will happen to your automobile surface and I know that for fact.
Right now there’s a new generation of clay bars and those are the ones we are using which will quickly and safely remove bonded contaminants, dropping and insect grime from automotive finishes. For automotive paint finishes, this product has the same function and environmentally safety as clay-based stain removers.
The value and benefits:
1) Just use with water, no need to buy other tool or special detergents for rigid stain.
2) Reduce over half time of removing contaminants: Use friendly and it is very easy and quick to remove dropping, insect grime and containments, which bonded on paint finish and only operate with water.
3) This product also has same function of clay based bars
4) Environmentally friendly: Just use with water and decrease water pollution.
5) Long lifespan of product: At least wash 20 to 35 times in properly use and store.
6) If block is drop in the floor, simply rinse it down and re-use.
Now, the question is which one is the Best clay bar ? I guess is all about choice.
