$20 says some Medium Cutting Compound and some swirl remover makes the car look fine.

Very tempting offer. Hehehe. I don't doubt it. I've been doing a lot of research and it looks very promising. Would you happen to know if the paint that got peeled will smooth even with the buffing or will it need to be painted?

 

Rule of thumb is that if you can catch your finger nail on any part of the paint... you don't hit it with the buffer. Best option would be to pickup the dealer touch up pen.

Try the 3M adhesive remover in aerosol can. Works so well.

 

Ive seen that decal before..but on a red sedan!

 

When I worked on a pit crew we used automotive type paint thinner on a rag, then you can polish and wax it. Hope that helps

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA HOLY SHEET MAN!! wtf was the previous owner thinkin of when he put that?? i literally lol'd loud as hell when i saw that. anyways, i would try giving it a full detailing. claybar, compound/polish, then some wax if it all got removed. good luck.

 

No clue, man. Whoever is was didn't take of it though, cosmetically speaking. Why put money in it to look nice if you don't keep it looking nice?
I picked up a few supplies and this is whats going on so far.



If you look at the earlier image, a leg was there. By hand too! I'm gonna work on it today and do the best that I can. There is a detailing shop nearby who charges about $100 for a buff and wax package so depending on how I feel with the end of today, it'll be going there sometime next week. I still have to pick up a pen though. <.< Wish me luck and thanks for all the advice! I think I'm gonna invest in a real buffer though and some lessons with it.

I was using that on the passenger side. Won't work on driver side though.

Thanks for the advice I'm gonna try a clay bar and see what happens. WD-40 I dunno. It's not really acting like a residue, it's kinda like smooth with the paint. I've been washing it, drying, wet sanding it, then using compound, then a polisher. So far, so good, but it's still taking awhile.

Your first mistake was not using a heat gun when you removed the decal.

Did you use Goo-Gone or Goof Off, big difference!!

You want Goof-Off, just work with a little at a time because it can eat up your finish if you let it sit.

Maybe, but the passenger side was just fine coming off and I used the 3M Adhesive remover.

Took my car to a detailing place, and a couple body shops. Whoever had the car before, the door was painted and they put the decal on when it wasn't completely done or something along those lines. It's not adhesive, it bonded/fused with the clear coat. I can't explain it well. So, after getting a couple quotes, I just dropped it off for repair and repaint. Should be done around Thursday, cant wait!
