I good rubbing compound should take out those dull spots. Then just use a swirl mark remover on the rest of the car and wax.

I'm not sure which compounds or pads to use.

That looks like what happen to us during one of our R&D's, done with an orange pad swirl remover and good old porter cable

How does that buffing machine compare to the others for sale on that site? I looked them over this weekend, and wish to buy one (kit). What chemicals or waxes, polishes, swirl remover should I use?? I was looking at the products that site sells, but they are a little expensive for me. Can I get by with the Mequire's products?? Are they an OK product?? What does Turbo Wax sell that is the same?? Is there a whole kit of waxes and stuff that is worth the price?? Which do I use with each color of pad?? Thanks for starting this thread, I had the same questions, and you guys have been helpful with your responses.

i would reccomend the starter kit i linked above

as for products...turbowax sells anything you will need

you will use the white pad for refinishing
grey for polishing
blue for sealant/wax

i would reccomend for product to get
turbo wax swirl remover
turbo wax pre-wax cleaner
turbo wax car wax

also their carwash and block are something else if you want

but all of this will cost a pretty penny...

I tried to price it out, and that $200 kit seemed like a pretty good deal, to start with. There were so many other options for other kits, also. Then I added a few more pads, an orange one, a red one to try it, another blue one, another $40, and some polishes and wax, another $100. So, no comment on the Mequir's line of products?? I have some pretty deep scratches on the clear coat, deeper than swirl marks. Probably from washing the car so much, and getting some grit on the glove I was using. I tried some detailing spray too, and that probably added some scratches also. My fault. It works great for water marks right after you wash the car. Not so great if the car has not just been cleaned. Some of the products on the website you mentioned claim they will "hide" the scratches, maybe blend them in, but might not take the scratches out completely. Sound correct?? I would settle for that. I know I have read some of this in previous posts in this section. I am just a little confused about the wax and polish, cleaner wax, swirl remover products. Guess I need to read up a little more. I think I am starting to understand what the different color pads are for. How bad does the paint have to be before you will try an orange pad on the buffing machine?? Thanks for replying to these questions, which probably seem real simple to a person with some experience with these products. It is great to hear some comments about the products, from forum members.

from autogeek you can also get optimum compound

orange is a medium cut pad....and it is a specific use pad....1 thing with this stuff is always use the least aggresive option first then if it doesnt work the more aggresive.

i have

optimum copmound
optimum polish
poorboys sealant
poorboys natty red

turbo wax swirl remover
turbowax pre-wax cleaner
turbowax car wax

also some other odd and end products...

but i dont use all of those so i would just say use the turbowax b/c they are very very easy to use...

OK, maybe I should have started another thread....but I am going to try the following...

$200 polishing kit

a few orange pads for the polisher

Optimum compound and polish

Poor Boys Sealer-EXP

Meguiar's swirl remover and machine glaze from the Mirror Glaze line...

I realize this is a sample of different products, but hoping to find some I like.

I will probably try the Turbo Wax also, eventually, after I use some of the crappy waxes I bought already....Then I will know how much better Turbo Wax is to use...

Thanks....!!

eh if you are using the ex-sealant you dont need the glaze....and the polish negates the swirl remover as they are the comparable products....

yeah, I know I had some product over-lap, but thought I would try both to see what i like the best...

If I am going to invest in the polisher/buffer, why not?? Thanks again for the recommendations..

I saw the video and it explains very nicely what to do, one of the biggest mistakes people do is that they move the tool to fast, take your time and do small areas at the time until you get familiar with the system
