I think its more from the metalic brake pads, try switching to ceramic pads.I dont think changing rotors is going to help but it could.

I at one time thought maybe it was metal particals from the cat coming out of the exhaust!

There also was a tsb on rail dust on the cars leaving rust spots for older models ,not sure if it holds for newer models

Rail dust has nothing to do with the year of a car. It affects every brand and model.
I would bet thats most likely the cause. Just for a laugh, do you live or work near a railway? lol

Moved. Also, that rust may not necessarily be from your car, though some of it probably is. Do you park your car outside, especially near a road? Cars very easily collect rust specs from cars passing by. I see this a lot working at a dealership. It's just part of owning a white car.

If you want to replace your rotors with something that rusts less, there are options. I had R1Concept's E-line rotors with Hawk ceramic pads on my Impala, and they developed very little rust/dust. One thing to note is that they aren't as strong as their "premium" rotors, but I never had any problems with them. I guess you should look at your driving style and determine if they would be an option for you. I have their premium rotors with Hawk HPS pads on my G5, and they get a lot of rust whenever it rains.

you could always get the non pad contact areas of the rotors powder coated..that would cut down on rust from those areas...just a thought.

I have the same issue as you, but I really dont think it has anything to do with the brake rotors. I get a lot of rust on mine when they are wet also but I cant see it getting onto the paint. And I really only notice the little rust spots everywhere after the winter. I also have two other white cars at home which don't have high performance brakes and they see the same issues. A clay bar will take care of all those spots no problem. Dont think there is really any way of preventing them though. Although if you do clean and wax the car often I'm sure they will also come off much easier.
