Wash/Wax tips and products

So now that the winter has passed, and its sunny as hell, I want to get my car lookin' real nice. I have a red cobalt, and it's tricky to get real clean looking. Today I washed it twice, and used a cleaner wax, Zymol. For some reason, the shine and quality is not nearly as good as it was when I got it new. Now, for about a year or so after I got the car, I could wash and wax it with what I always use, and it would like gorgeous. Now, I am finding the technique a little harder to perfect.

What I Use and Process:

1. Wash car with Armor All Carnuaba Wax Soap.

2. Dry with terry towel and or microfiber.

3. Mothers Quick Detailer to get any small spots missed.

4. Armor All extreme tire shine gel.

5. Wax and buff entire car with Zymol cleaner wax.

What I am looking for is the best process for getting my car ready for the summer after a long winter that the car did not receive alot of washing or waxing.

I want you guys to post your best process of getting it perfect, and what products you use.

Some of you post up amazing pictures of how you got your car that way.

Thanks alot.

caranuba wax w/ abrasives (most have abrasives anyway.) It's designed to remove minor swirls and paint imperfections. This Saturday I might get bored and make a how-to on detailing your car (the right way.) Poor SS needs one, she's had a rough winter.

Thanks, I've been seeing it in the stores but never knew what it was. Despite never being waxed, my Cobalt doesn't have very many scratches, but my Moms Blazer could use a bit of it. Very interested in reading your how-to if you ever write it

Sweet, and my local Wal-Mart and Advance Auto Parts seems to have it in stock. I'll definitely have to check it out, thanks!

We all have our favorite products but try TurboWax, **** is awesome......the cleaner wax makes it look sweet by itself then the wax keeps them nasty water spots off from the city water. Like I said we all have out favorite products which mine was Turtle Wax and I tried TurboWax out and I reallt never cared to look back. Plus if you talk with Juan enough from TurboWax he will give you an awesome deal, he saved me $40.

Black magic wax is so great that when i got in to a wreck, right before bed I covered the damage done to my engine and fender with the stuff. When i woke up it was brand new and the odometer went down to 10 miles.

Tried mcguires Color X.... wow im impressed with it. Definitley the best thing to get rid of swirls after you strip the old wax. First mcguires product i like.

Please allow me to help

Step 1- Rinse with water real good everywhere first. - To remove all the dirt and such from the surface

Wash - First Wash with Car Shampoo PH 7

Fix Scrathes- Repair as needed

Clay- To remove embedded brake dust and fallout that penetrates the clear coat or paint as well as over spray.

Wash - Final good wash

Pre Wax - To remove road grime, light oxidization and tar.

Wax- Final Protection

We have use that system and it works great, when needed we do the swirl remover with the porter cable.

I hope that helps
