GM STAGE KIT INFORMATION ONLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A GM STAGE KIT INSTALLED THIS INFO IS NOT FOR YOU!

This applies to people with stage 1 or 2. If you are planning on buying a kit you should receive the new flash anyway.

Ok so there seems to be a massive amount of people trying to find info on the new GM stage kit update flash that addresses a few issues that the original flash had.

First this kit is not a power upgrade but addresses issues with false lean/lean codes that some people are getting after installing the gm kits. It also addresses boost surging that can occur with the original stage kit flash as well as the harsh sluggish 1-2 shift some have experienced.

The false lean/lean issue is that the car THINKS it is running too lean thus pulls timing or dumps fuel to correct the issue but there really is no issue at all. The car will NOT show a CEL for this issue unless specific requirements are met within a certain period of time during the same on cycle so a dealer telling you that the CEL needs to show up is incorrect.

Boost surging occurs in the midrange normally before 4500 rpms and feels like the car is rocking back and forth as if it is trying to move but can't. Normally this is seen in 2nd or 3rd gear during sudden acceleration.

The harsh sluggish 1-2 shift happens under fast accelleration when it would be needed when getting on the highway or freeway to match traffic speed quickly. The shift to 2nd feels much like boost surging except that the car will feel like it is failing to get any gas at all thus the car will not accellerate.

Since this is an update to an already present code on the car with an installed stage kit the chances of getting charged for the update should be low with a decent dealer but in reality you can be charged for it if the dealer feels it neccisary ... go somewhere else at that point.

The image below shows the new codes for an '05 (in green) the rest of the codes are irrelivant and the ones in red simply show the old code I specifically had (you may or may not have the same code I have).

Notice below why I mentioned you need to make sure the codes you are getting done are for your car as the code can be different for the different years.

The codes addressed are P0171 (and or p071) and P0507

Edit #2: This updated flash was found and availalable since around 9/6/06. If your kit was installed before this date or shortly after then you should get your car checked.

edit#3 while unconfirmed it would appear that the flash also fixes the p0103 code that occurs during wot in cooler temps. The car would get the lean code and throw a cel at around 7k rpms

1. enter your vin #, then click GET CAL ID
2. SELECT "PCM/VCM Powertrain/Vehicle Control Module
3. Click NEXT button
4. Click Complete History Button
5. New window appears with all the part #'s, double check them to check yer reflash
6. Print the new window page that appears and bring it to the dealership, explaining yer flash is outdated and causing you drivability issues.

Im getting this done this week along with some other warranty work, i will report back

the only problem i encounter is the boost surge, and it really pisses me off i notice it most in 3rd (feels like the car shaking...pulls hard, stop, pulls hard, stops....)

 

The question is, which of you have HPTuners..??

Yea there should be or else the PN's would be the same.

 

so then if my car is runnin good i have nothing to worry about right, when i went and showed them the info i printed out, i didnt know the 05 and 06 flashes were different

well the flash is the same just that because it is a different car they have to use different pn's cus each part or update gm does receives it's own pn

 

there could be, they are different in that the 06 has different parameters for boost control (can't think of the exact difference, but it deals with boost).

 

Man its a bitch trying to get this reflash done. Dealers just want you to pay. I was hoping they would be like the Hyundai dealer I work at. Kids come in all the time with there Tiburons asking for the latest sofware update and we just type a cocern on the repair order and warrenty the flash.

It should be a warranty fix since this is an issue with original flash. That is, if you are having the CEL come on.

 

well if they do decide to do it, they have a work order that they log in thier comps, it has all yer cars info, so if its an 05 or an 06 they will just go by that and if they are smart they would put 2 and 2 together, my car runs perfect now so i guess tis all good, i was just wondering wat if...lol

 

Guys if your CEL is not on just create an intake leak by pulling out the dipstick and drive around for a little bit. Believe it or not it will throw a P0171 system too lean code.

 

so i can just go up to a a dealership and ask them for the updated reflash? (i do have the old stage 1 reflash)

how you guys get this done is seriously up to you cus regardless of what people tell you, you will still have to speak with the dealership and some dealerships are just stupid.
this could be considered as much of a safety flash update as it is a diagnostic update (which it is).

 

Well this explains a lot. I have been getting the p0507 code for awhile. Should I take my intake off to get this done?

lol, i took it to the dealer to get the oil changed because they owed me a free one and they freaked out about my car! They noticed the exhaust and intake right off and told me it wasn't a good idea. I laughed and told them to shut up and give me my oil change. Needless to say, i'm going to drive to a better dealer get my car flashed. How long does it take?
