Mods are needed. The few times i've been given infractions or banned, were for 100% out of context reasons, and the mod had no knowledge of the situation at hand.

i.e. Redcavvy, however his name is spelled.

That said, choosing new moderators is not a job to be taken lightly on a forum of this size. Nor is it a job that i would volunteer for.

If a mod can't handle PM's, they shouldn't be a mod. It's not hard to answer most questions. Having people to strickly just answers PM's is stupid. We don't need a "call center."

i don't understand what you are talking about in reference to mods/vips. What is the difference? what would each designations capabilities be?

True, that would just be stupid.

mod = banning / thread closing, etc

vip = control of section ie south mountain and handle pms

You're missing what I'm saying. We need a select group of mods. Those mods then need to be in charge of certain forums. They can moderate all forums, but need to keep their eye on their forum. If you're controlling a section, you are handling forum closing and banning. You're trying to put to many people in power, which is bad.

how is a vip only running tiny sections and handling pms power?

ultimately its mods who have power to ban and do other things...

w/e I really dont care. good luck finding people who need to police this place 24/7

One mod for control of say 2 or 3 sections is adequate. The classified's and/or regional mod does not need the same amount of technical knowledge as the performance section.

Slowswap, i'm with you on just about everything you are saying. I'm a moderator on another forum, which is miniscule compared to this, and it's not easy.

IT mostly takes a keen sense of what is going on within your section, and making sure to thoroughly check everything and scan most threads.

Exactly. Once you've done it, or are doing it, what I'm saying will make sense.

I do feel also that there needs to be moderators, at times I feel things get WAY out of hand on these forums. I never let my forums run like that. But that's me, not you, you guys can run your site anyway you want. But I do feel when only 2 of the moderators actually login, that's not enough for a forum this big. An idea is only have category moderators rather than global moderators, this way moderators won't feel so busy trying to manage the entire forum all the time, and they can moderate just that section (unless they feel confident enough to be a global (to which you would only want just a handful of them to over see the other moderators and other things like that)) . Just my $.02

I would LOVE to run the racing section, being that I'm in charge of the drag threads and the dyno threads and I'm constantly active in that area, and I would like to think I'm pretty knowledgeable about those things.

I certainly wouldn't want the power to bann anyone. But the power to just keep my own threads going rather than having to "take 2" or "take 3" every single year would be nice. Also, I would be able to make stickies and important announcements in those sections. And I can delete any garbage posts that gets way off topic (like the bullshit 09pissedturbo and his fuckbuddy).

What do you guys think?

I think having mods that are in control of designated sections is a great idea. And they shouldn't have the power to bann. That should be like a supermoderator's job.

I could think of a whole list of who should be moderators, but damn if anyone will even listen to me.

Try running a website. I have about 4 of them right now that I'm admin of, and a few that I'm a moderator of, and I know exactly what you mean by that! lol.

I used to be a mod over on dragguam.net, back when I was stationed there. But when I pcs'ed, I gave up the mod duties as I knew I would no longer visit that board. But I only had control of a certain section and I couldn't bann anyone. I don't see why they can't do something like that here.
