Bought a broke down

Alright this is my first Cobalt to buy it is a 2006 Cobalt SS supercharged with 54,000miles, I purchased from a used dealership and drove it off the lot. I did purchase a 3 year unlimited mile warranty. 60 miles out of the town car started smoking from the hood pulled to the side of the rode opened hood and oil was everywhere. Dealer towed vehicle back to dealership at there expense, gave me another vehicle to borrow. It is now 24 days later they have taken forever to get it fixed. I payed sticker price for car.

First the said something was wrong with the piston maybe a whole, which in turn messed up the gasket, but they said no problem we will fix it.

few days later they found that the pulley on supercharger was not stock so they replaced the supercharger with a stock when so warranty (GM) would cover vehicle.

Between them fixing and getting parts it took them 24 days they now said its fixed everything is good to go. And car was still covered under factory warranty so dealer really didnt have to pay much.

My worries and what I need advise on is, should I ask for compensation for my troubles which would include,

-Dealer taking way to long to do paper work, 5 hours
-Not telling me there was a whole in driver side leather seat, front flasher bulb out, vehicled pulled to the right
-Breaking down on side of rode taking over 2 hours to tow vehicle
-Taking over three weeks to fix vehicle
-Whole process extremly frustrated but want this car very good condition
-embarrasing

How much should I ask for? Couple months payment, insurance payments for a couple months?

How much off ticket price?

Any legal advise?

None of that is their fault. They will argue the car was sold as is, and it's the buyers responsibility to look over the car before purchase.

And did you get to keep the "borrowed car" for the entire 24 days?

Welcome to the forums. If you want legal advice you're in the wrong place. If you want opinions then you'll find them here, in spades.

B.F.D. Seriously. Is this your first major purchase?

-Not telling me there was a whole in driver side leather seat, front flasher bulb out, vehicled pulled to the right

Did you even look at this car before you bought it? Why should the dealer tell you it has a hole in the seat? He's selling you a car, not a wife and there is nothing hidden about the front seat.

-Breaking down on side of rode taking over 2 hours to tow vehicle

I hope you're kidding. Really. get real, you think just because YOU broke down that a tow truck is going to just appear out of space?

-Taking over three weeks to fix vehicle

Did you want it right? Do you think the local parts store has a supercharger for an '06 Cobalt sitting on his shelf waiting for you?

-Whole process extremly frustrated but want this car very good condition
-embarrasing

Embarassing?

-How much should I ask for? Couple months payment, insurance payments for a couple months?

How about just start with asking them to make the car right, which they did. Maybe ask them for a reduction due to the engine problem. Your tough luck on the seat. Should have seen that and test driven the car.

You're coming across as your own worst enemy here. Maybe there is more to the story than what you're giving us and I hope there is, but I can only go with what you have described. You've described someone that has no patience, has made some bad choices, and is expecting someone not just to make it right but to pay in addition to that.

^^ Same things I was thinking. The car broke down. Yea, sucks. But THEY towed it on their own tab. Then gave you a rental as they fixed it.

And ever call AAA? 2 hours is normal sometimes for a tow

Embarassing. Deal with it, suck it up. You bought a Cobalt. Some more ****'s going to happen in less then a couple years.

Ha thanks, awesome advise guys...

Getting the car back today everything repaired, yes got to keep the borrowed vehicle the whole time,
and yes I am getting my first two months paid and insurance paid.

I was driving 400 miles to get the car and I asked the dealer is there anything at all wrong with the interior. I now got them to take off $200 for the seat.

This dealer has two chevy stores I think they would be able to get ahold of parts a little faster.

Well the cobalt is out of production and I don't know of any other cars that are in production with chevy/GM that run an m62 or the LSJ engine so parts may be harder to find or come by. They don't always have everything in stock and it has to be shipped from out of state possibly from a main warehouse.

Call this a learning experience. You're definitely richer for it as you've definitely learned a thing or three.

the hole in the seat nothing you can do about that. the light being burnt out and the vehicle pulling to the right and with you breaking down means they didn't properly inspect it before they sold it to you. don't know about down in the states but up here used vehicles go through a huge inspection and have to meet certain standards before they can be sold. and if things aren't gonna be fixed then those repairs have to be disclosed to the person purchasing the vehicle.

If it's pulling to the right, it probably needs an alignment.

If your car popped a piston and had an aftermarket pulley on it, odds are it's tuned (badly), and throwing a stock SC on it is not great for it since it probably has aftermarket injectors and got flashed to stock. If you're in Austin, see if you can scrounge up 200 bucks and I'll tune it proper so it'll run well.

Also, if you're in Austin, check out our club.

Should have noticed the alignment problem on the test drive. I just bough a 09 SS TC for a dd and inspected every inch and it was a cpo car from autonation which my company has a contract with so I got a ok price. Few minor scratches need sanding and buffing but always take a good test drive and inspect everything. The leather seat can be fixed easy enough it one of the things my company does at the dealerships and I handkerchief.the paintwork. Just find an upholstery shop and they can remove the cover and insert a new piece and look brand new just did my gf's suv, $40 for two new side vinyl replacements and looks as good as new.
