I usally change my oil when it shows 60% left when i was changing regular oil at 3500 miles. I have the injen cold air intake and b&m shift plus and it just feels better to me than the regular oil. Will synthetic really make your car last longer though than regular.
Just so you know GM does not make a car that only takes 4.5 quarts of oil i dont know who you want to probley jiffy lube but dont trust them they lie all coblats take AT LEAST FIVE QUARTS

It says change every 5000 and something miles but I change it around 4000. Yea, if you can, definatly do it yourself, spend 20 or 30 dollars on a jack if you don't have one, get an oil pan and your basically set for future changes (besides the oil and filter obviously lol).

Get you some Rhino ramps, get the car up on the ramps, remove the plug and the oil cap, let the oil drain (into a drain container for you non-enviornmental types), wait a few minutes for all the oil to drain, snake your hand under the supercharger (when the engine is cool btw) loosen the filter, replace filter (some people like to pour a little oil in the filter which is ok), fill the oil. I'd notice it would take a little over 5 quarts in the Redline, but I'm sure results would vary. Tighten everything down, then go to fridge, pop a beer and put the tools away.

One thing I did notice with my old Saturn Redline, after around 4K miles with the same oil, it would come out a little sludgy and cooked during the hot Texas summer months, so if you want, go ahead and run 3-4K longer with the same oil, when your car starts acting funny just remember your post about running with the same oil in the car for 1/2 a year.
