I know this thread is pretty dead, but about a month and a half ago I moved to Alpharetta (north Atlanta area). Anyone in the area?

Soooo, small chance I might be relocating to kings bay, GA some time in the future and I'm trying to figure out what I am going to have to deal with as far as owning a modified car in GA. As far as I can tell kings bay doesn't require emissions checks, but I can't find anything on recon inspections. What can you guys tell me? What types of things get you in trouble in GA? Here in HI, we need front and rear plates, no LEDS or HIDs are allowed (technically, its rare to get pulled over for this, but you wont pass safety inspections, and definitely not recon inspections for us modified guys), Tint darker than 35% gets you pulled over constantly, and the list goes on. I just want to get an idea of how hard life is gonna be for me to keep my car when I move out there. Would it be easier to just live across the border in florida? Any help would be awesome!

 

Lol that's funny. Previous owner of my SS was from HI. Military man I presume. Thing was chocked full of underglow at some point. Emission is the only thing in GA you have to worry about. And tint at darker than 35% but they rarely ticket it. Unfortunately for me in Atlanta, they do emissions here but oh well. I have friends with highly modified cars that never have a problem and same with lifted trucks and diesels and whatnot. You'll have more trouble from speeding and the like than mods. Also, rear plate only.

 

I'm pretty sure that camden county isn't one of the ones that doesn't require emissions checks so win for me How are the cops with lowered cars and exhaust?

 

In Atlanta they couldn't care less lol. And judging by the amount of trucks with loud exhaust everywhere in Georgia, you won't have any problems. Also, never heard of anyone getting a ticket for lowering or lifting so should be fine there too.

 

Good to know! Here we need a separate inspection done if you modify your ride in any way and cops are really stupid about checking that ****. About how much do you have to pay for registration? I pay about 290 a year here, plus the inspection fees.

 

Dang that sucks. It just depends on the area. I can't remember off the top of my head what it is in the Atlanta area. If you don't need emissions you probably don't even have to be inspected every year and just have to pay registration fees.
