GCE Meet: February 21st in Mobile!
Alright everyone. I've been digging up information about Gulf Coast ECOtec's first meet that we've been talking about doing. I'm just gonna directly copy and paste the information from the battleship website and let you all read it for yourselves.
USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park is open everyday except Christmas Day. From April through September the park is open from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm and October through March 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Groups should allow 2 – 2 1/2 hours for the self-guided tour. Once onboard, the group can enter gun turrets, view crew's quarters, sick bay, an engine room and much more. There are 12 decks open for touring. The main deck of the Battleship is handicapped accessible. The group will also enjoy watching a 15 minute film in the Uptake Theater featuring former WWII USS ALABAMA crewmen. After touring the ALABAMA, head down to the 36,000 sq. ft. Aircraft Pavilion, dedicated to the 29 Medal of Honor recipients from the State of Alabama. In here, the group can view aircraft such as the A-12 "Blackbird" Spy Plane and a P51-D Mustang Redtail, the type of plane flown by the valiant Tuskegee Airmen. Then inspect other aircraft, a Vietnam PBR boat, and wonderful exhibits. Don't forget to take a ride on the Flight Simulator. Great for the young and young at heart! Submarine USS DRUM is your next stop, also designated a National Historic Landmark. She can be viewed from every vantage point, inside and out. Be sure to visit the inspiring Vietnam and Korean War Memorials also located in the park.
You do not need a reservation to visit Battleship Memorial Park, but advance notice is appreciated.
Groups of 10 or more qualify for a , non-commissionable admission fee per person. Qualified group tour escorts and bus drivers (2 comp per coach) are always admitted free with their group's paid admission. To receive this discount, we require that one person purchase tickets for the entire group. We accept cash, travelers' checks, American Express, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. We do not accept personal checks.
Group Rates 10 or more
Adult (12 and over) $10
Child (6-11) $5
Child (under 6) Free
Motorcoach parking is free and ample
Plan to meet at the USS Alabama at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday February 15 2009. There is a cafe on the premises, but the Gulfport group will be having lunch before the meet. If you're interested in joining then please let us know so we can tell you when and where. Plans after the battleship will include dinner (we will all decide before we leave) and then an evening cruise. If there are any questions, feel free to post them here!

Indeed! Nice weather will be helpful. I originally planned to hold this on Saturday, but a few members are gonna have work issues that day. I was gonna use Sunday as a back up in case the weather was bad. I guess if the weather isn't cooperating on Sunday we can move the event to the following weekend.
Morning bump. Where are all the South Eastern members close to mobile?! NW Florida, Mid to Southern Alabama?! I got Mississippi held down! Speak up folks!

Saturday the 21st. We have a meet scheduled over here in Gulfport on Sunday the 22nd.
A roster sounds good. I'll let everyone add their name to the appropriate list then. Keep this going folks!
Definitely going to the Battleship Meet:

TWO (2) other clubs will be meeting with us. We're going to have a good turn out. They won't all be Cobalts, but the majority will be.
Team Fukaru from Hattiesburg will be joining us, along with MA Racing from Mobile.

I haven't gotten a confirm on the number of people from NW FL but I do have a few who are interested and are PM'ing me for this meet.

Bump
Sounds great Larry. We've got quite a few people who "want" to come, but there's no telling if they'll actually come. Hopefully they will stick to their word and follow through with us.
Our sponsor manager will be coming along with us as well.
