Bought a wrecked Balt in Phoenix...
Hi all.
I just bought a '07 SS from an auction here in Phoenix & was wondering if any of the AZ guys might know its previous owner so I could try to get as much info on it as possible.
From the Carfax, it looks like it was bought locally, at Power Chevrolet in Mesa & was reported as in an accident on the 26th of January. Anyone know of someone in Mesa who might've had a little incident around then?

It's silver, with the low rise wing.
The only mods that I noticed offhand were an Injen CAI & HIDs. My experience is mostly with 2G Eclipses, so since this is my first balt, I wasn't totally sure what all to look for.
Here's some pics:
It obviously is going to take some work, but I'm sure that it will be worth the trouble.
On a side note, anyone know where a silver front bumper, some tail lights and a stock subwoofer can be found? Oh, and rims, could use some rims...

I picked it up for just under 5k. It does have a salvage title, but that doesn't bother me since I plan on using it as a daily driver (my '76 Stingray is killing me on gas...) & am not just trying to flip it over for cash.
There is some damage under the front bumper not shown in the pics, including the tip of the frame where the tow hook is on the passenger side, but I checked out the front suspension/underbody pretty thoroughly and I don't think that there's any real problems with it other than bolt on parts. I've been working on cars for about 20 years or so and, while I'm no Mr. Goodwrench, I am fairly confident that I can handle the repairs that it needs.
If I'm wrong & it does need some frame pulling, I think that I will still come out money ahead on it for the price I paid.

Well, it would seem that I missed a couple things in looking over the balt, so I wasn't able to bring it home today...
It would seem that the driver's side CV joint has come apart & the radiator may have a leak as the coolant was low. Looks like I will be putting it on a trailer on Friday.
On the bright side, those seem like good excuses for upgraded axles and radiator.
If things work out for the worst, can anyone give me any ideas as to the value of the motor etc, in case I have to part it out to try to make my money back?

Dam, I was looking for a SS all over the place but never found one, so this is what i got,
With 42k miles for 3,200....
I'm planning on selling it and getting me a SS
The good thing about it was that nothing in the engine was damaged, but it's still a salvaged title...
Here's the outcome: (excuse the crappy cell pics)

New pics
Got the balt home yesterday & set to work on it. Here's some new pics of the damage/progress:
So it looks like the damage was about what I thought & now I'm trying to get all of the parts amassed to get it put back together.
Since I figure that I might as well put it back together with upgraded parts, I have ordered the OTTP Stage 1 axles and Pedders/TC strut suspension package.
Any suggestions as far as the control arms and spindles, etc? Is it worth replacing both spindles to go with SS/TC components or should I just replace the one & call it good?

Wow... Talk about strange coincidences...
So I answered an ad off of Craigslist for some Malibu SS wheels to put on the Balt & went to look at them last night. Got to chatting with the guy & told him that I was getting them to replace the stockers on the wrecked Balt that I had bought & he looks at me crazy & starts asking questions - Color, miles, damage, etc...
Well, wouldn't you know, it was his old car. So I now know the guy that used to own the car & know the history of it. The really cool thing is that he works at the dealership & faithfully did all the servicings on the car himself.
And to top it all off, he lives less than 5 miles away from me...
