^^ Right place, right time I guess... I doubt that many have had that good of luck.

*edit* Wow, if this pic from your gallery is of it when you bought it, our definitions of "not too bad" are quite different.

I would say that you understated the damage a little and that your $2600 wasn't much more of a bargain than my $5000 was, if at all...

Wasn't that bad:

I'm planning on selling it and getting me a SS

The good thing about it was that nothing in the engine was damaged, but it's still a salvaged title...

Here's the outcome: (excuse the crappy cell pics)

around 900 to fix it, got it for 3200

only body parts where damaged though

Still working on it - am at a standstill thanks to UPS breaking the radiator that I had shipped to me...

I have to wait for them to inspect it to see if they will cover the damage (it was packed by the UPS store and the package was insured for $400 by the seller) before I can move forward with the rest of the work.

At present, I have replaced the steering hub, shock and axle on the driver's side. The car moves under its own power & runs beautifully - allthough I can't run it for long due to the cracked radiator.

I have sourced a new front bumper and lip (thanks for the Auto Fit suggestion by the way Krizlx) & will be getting them painted soon.

Hopefully, UPS doesn't take their time about this & I can get some cash from them to get another rad soon. Once I get that, I can assemble the car the rest of the way & get it inspected.

For spindles and the sub, check this link.

http://www.zzperformance.com/cobalt_...cts.php?id=166

There are three options for knuckles: SS/SC, Competition(/G6), and SS/TC. To use the competition or SS/TC knuckes requires some modification, though I don't remember what off-hand. Powell Raceshop would be able to help you with that info as well as the parts (PM "quikredline" on here).

Good luck with the rebuild!

Thanks for the info. I was trying to find some SS/TC spindles, but just ended up replacing the one spindle that I needed with a stock SS/SC for now, since I found one pretty cheap.

I have upgraded the axles to OTTP Stage 1 axles and ordered their suspension package that has the SS/TC struts/shocks with the Pedders springs. I also found an Ingall's Stiffy and a set of B-Woody Traction Bars for decent prices, so I grabbed them too. It should ride pretty nice once I get it all together.

Competition knuckles require no modification at all.

TC knuckles do.

Control arms are as good as they get.

OTTP Axles is a good choice.

Yeah, I do all my own work whenever possible.

I will have to have somebody pull out the trunk floor a little bit so that the rear bumper cover fits right & the trunk lid lines up - I will probably just have them spray the front bumper cover & lip at the same time. I've got a decent sized compressor & a paint gun, but am not yet good enough with the paint gun to be comfortable doing that myself.

Yeah, I found the front bumper cover and lip at Auto Fit for about $400 total. Both were brand new OEM factory painted pieces - supposedly they're blemished items, but I found nothing wrong with them. I wish that they were silver, but the bumper is black and the lip is blue.

I'm toying with the idea of a midnight blue bottom with the stock silver on top.

Of course, I could always go with a cobalt blue, ...

Well this blows...

I have the car mostly put back together, but can't finish it up because I am waiting on a UPS claim for my broken radiator. Until they figure out what they are going to do, I'm at a standstill in the repairs.

holy you paid 5k for a salvage one. I paid 2500-3000 can remember some where in there for mine. and repaired it for a total of 6k for a car with 34k miles on it. But my car is a saturn ion redline.

I hear ya, but I still think that I did alright. I didn't buy it to make money, so the salvage title doesn't matter to me. If I wasn't upgrading a lot of parts, I could have put it back together for about $1500 - putting me in the car for roughly $6500 total.

Instead, it's going to get treated to a few tweaks as I decide what direction I'm going with it. So far, the list of non-necessary purchases are as follows:

OTTP stage 1 axles
SS/TC struts & shocks
Pedders springs
BWoody traction bars
Ingall's Stiffy
ZZP mid length header/downpipe combo
ZZP Stage 3 heat exchanger

Things may change depending on what I decide I want out of the car. I'm still toying with the idea of buying one of those new LSD trannys that were being offered a while back, but I'm trying not to go too crazy before I even get the thing on the road...

*EDIT* On a side note - krizlx, I will have a full stock SS/SC suspension set up if you're interested...
