CA emissions laws suck. worst case scenario you may just have to return back to stock. A week before return it back so it get's in the stock groove and then put your mods back on after.

around here gas stations do private inspections, you have to pay but they're usually more lenient with that kinda stuff.

New car, six years to go and I'm not worried about smog right now. The Cobalt will more than likely remain stock or stock-appearing (or get CARB approved parts if I see the need/benefit to upgrade something in the powertrain). If something not so legal were to go on the car I'd keep the stock parts around just in case. You never know when you could potentially get a vehicle (under hood) inspection, but since I don't have heavy tint, a super loud exhaust, a giant spoiler or other graphics/appearance crap and I don't drive like an idiot trying to attract attention I don't worry about that too much.

Every CHP sub-office is supposed to have an officer specially trained that they can call out to inspect your car, and trust me, those officers will have a good idea what's legal and what isn't. I don't worry too much about the CHP anyways. The legality of underhood inspections is such that they don't do them very often. You have to pretty much have a giant flag on your car waving "hey, I've got illegal stuff on my car" for them to stop you and went to inspect your car (such as a super loud exhaust, etc.).

What would concern me more is the local police departments and county sheriffs that aren't trained as well as the CHP and have nothing better to do. They, like all officers don't even have to know or figure out if you have illegal parts on your car. All they have to do is suspect you do and that's enough to get you sent to the smog ref. And you're screwed when that happens if you have aftermarket stuff on your car. That's why keeping your car low-key and not trying to flaunt too much individuality (i.e. highly modified car sound/appearance-wise) can be beneficial. Nothing like driving a sleeper.

mine is not low kay at all trust me and i have no problems.lol. everything is legal. Only modify with C.A,R.B cert. or **** they cant tell like new H/E. diff. wastegate etc. I have sat through 4 seperate full state ref inspections. I have a full costum exhaust. Measures a 94 max is 95 they hate that.lol. It's funny going to my court date and seeing the CHP nofficer all pissed off because the judge throws out his ticket.lol. Actually where I live local cops dnt give a ****. They have more important things to do. Hell they dnt even bust u for tint unless u have limo
