06 SS/SC Rear Brake Caliper Parking Brake
Hello,
Recently I have changed my brake pads. I turned in the piston with a special tool I baught from Autozone. Afterwards the parking brake failed to hold.
So,
Last night, I adjusted the lil nut on the handle. Got it as tight as I could and it would still not hold.
So today, I jack up the rear end of my car. Loosen the nut all the way...
And I Looked.
My Left caliper lever where the cable attaches, is resting on the stop like it should...
The Right, is not...
So I spray some WD-40 on it, and work it with some pliers and pull it down, and it moves
down. I Move the left side with my pliers and it moves fine and falls down from the spring as it
should, I move the right side, and it stays where I put it. So I pull it down.
Can that part be lubricated till it works again?
Or do I have to replace my caliper?
If I change the right caliper, should I change the left one also?
Its about 58 bux with a 25 dollar core from Autozone.
This creates a little inconvients, since my driveway is a hill. Lucky I have cholks to block the wheels with that I have been useing. My parking brake used to hold my car on the driveway but does not anymore.
Based on that my right rear lever was up, I'm guessing the right side was dragging all this time too, so I think I'll need some pads.
Also I found the right cable disconected from the balancer. This makes since if the right side got jamed up, and the cable got loose from the balancer.

Main question(s)
- Do I need to replace the right caliper? (The malfunctioning one)
- Can the right rear one be lubricated up so that it works again?
- Should I replace the left one as well?
- What all should I buy besides just the caliper(s)?
Sure it's not a cable problem.
Also Is the caliper on the rear working properly?Pads slightly rubbing the rotor.
You should here them rubb alittle when the wheels off the ground and you spin it.

Yes I am. Even after pulling it down to the release position, when I move it up with the pliers, the cable goes loose and the lever stays in the set position.
No, hince why I'm considering replaceing it. It seems to be working for normal brakeing,
just only the parking brake portion is malfunctioning. The lever that the cable pulls to set
the brake does not fall back onto it's stop like it should when the cable tension is released.
Yes, I tried that and that is what happens when I spin it.

I checked on Autozone's web sight, its like 60 bux with a 25 dollar core or something like that so ya, your price is about what I came up with....
I'm going to have to wait till I get time to do it.
Have to work saturday
then Im going to my first Auto Cross Sunday
So maybe NEXT saturday I can get with a friend to get the caliper changed.
I can change it, just need a friend to pump the brake so I can bleed it.
Question though
OTHER then the caliper,
what ealse should I buy? I already have the tool to turn the caliper in,
Should I get new pads? Even though I Just put new pads on a few months
ago in the rear?
New Bolts? Thread Lock? Greece? Brake Lube?
Ok so I got the caliper changed, bled and parking brake adjusted.
Though I noticed when adjusting it,, for some reason the lever for the "new" caliper (The guy said it was refurbished) did not go comletly down with the brake released. I gave the hub a good spin though to make sure it wasnt grabbing. The parking brake is now firm when I pull it
and holds on my driveway with 6 clicks. I know it's suposed to be 5 but my drive way is abit of an incline.
