08 s/tc rear spring insulators

My rear spring insulators are worn out. The shop showed them to me. They can't do it today so I told them that I will do it another time.
I don't imagine that they are critical to the function of the suspension but what EXACTLY do they do? In other words, will there be clunking? I don't hear any. I never noticed anything. Or is it simply for road noise? Which doesn't seem excessive to me.

They keep metal springs from rubbing on metal spring seats. Its to keep them from wearing the paint off and keep the noise down.
