Alignment for rack spacers?
I was just thinking about it since they are coming in tomorrow... I am gonna need to do an alignment because my toe is gonna be off when I install my steering rack spacers arent I? Also does any other auto have the 1.5-2 inch steering rack spacers on their car? I wasnt really looking much but from memory the rack is already close to the tranny mount... anyone think they will be interfering/touching?
Yes, you should re-do the alignment. Just as you said, the toe will be off. Don't know about clearance, though. Are the spacers custom-made or something? I would think (maybe a bad assumption) that somebody would have checked this before making and selling them.
They did they fit; or at least I did check that; they ran in all the Cobalt race cars in Grand Am up until they got banned in 08 or so..... If you buy OTTP rotated stage 1 mounts (for under 200 bucks) its an easy deal, if you run stock mounts its close but okay....the spacers are not 1.25 inches I dont know where that came from they are more like 8-12 mm range...

Also I know but ottp has two different ones, ones for cars lowered <1" ones for cars lowered 1.5-2". I dont really know the difference but mine are right under a half inch(about 10-12mm).
no afaik M35 manual mounts wont work for the auto.... and you dont need them for an automatic the axle shafts are in alignment. If you get hop with an auto it is something else....use the thinner of the rack spacers 10 mm is okay....
You don't need the steering rack spacers for an auto? Is that what you're saying qwik? If so, I didn't need to buy the spacers for my LS. Let me know for sure...I plan on buying/installing some SS/TC struts and shocks in the summer and installing the spacers as well...if I don't need them, I'll sell them.

I think there is some confusion here. Transmission mounts and rack spacers. Two different things. If you lower the car, you need to raise the rack to reduce bump steer. The rack spacers go under the rack. TTR give them away, so selling them may be difficult (lol) .
Rotated mounts move the transmission axle in line with the knuckle bearung centerline. Automatics are already aligned so less of an issue than an M35 car.
Summary: lower the car, put in rack spacers....hope this helps
QFT this guy is on it. Thanks

No, no, no. He was saying the rotated trans mounts werent needed in the auto because our drive shafts were already alligned with the hubs, in a manual balt they are set forward of the hub. If you lower your car you should get the spacers but I was just talking about clearance.

i always wondered about this bump steer ive been reading on the forum.. im lowered on sportlines but as far as i know,i dont get bump steer.. its when you hit a bump and the car wants to steer wherever it wants correct? even though i dont have bump steer im wondering if i should still get the rack spacers?

Although I spelled "aligned" wrong.
I would, especially if I was fast enough to shoot fireballs.
Seriously though, I would, even if you dont notice it now.

OK, sorry I didn't read close enough...as far as the selling statement, wasn't totally serious along with the fact that I got mine from OTT...didn't even know TTR had them...
Thanks for clarifying though....I didn't realize there was talk about the rotated mounts as well in the thread.
OK so I'll still be doing SS/TC struts and shocks and spacers and alignment next spring or summer....if I replace the front sway with the SS/SC's sway, will that involve messing with anything that would require an alignment? Trying to plan ahead for everything I need.
Sorry for going off topic there.

Things you wont need an alignment for: endlinks, swaybar, swaybar bushings... Feel free to add/debate my list. Those are just off the top of my head.
Thanks, I just couldn't remember what had to be removed to pull out the stock sway and and put in a new one...couldn't remember if the suspension components had to be touched or if it was other stuff...I know there's a how-to, just too lazy to look for it right now.
