Bleeding ABS brakes

Is anything needed to completely bleed the system? On my previously ABS equipped vehicle, my ABS pump was a closed loop that was only open when ABS was engaged. This caused a problem when trying to completely bleed the system. I would like to remove all the old fluid and replace with DOT4. I know that they are compatible, I just want all the old fluid gone and am wondering if I need the module to open the ABS system, or if I can do a full system cleanse in my garage.

Thanks!

Anyone?

Does everyone just bleed all the fluid out of the lines, and say good enough?
