Brake noise

Ok so I went out on a drive up the mountain here and halfway up the mountain i did some hard braking and all of a sudden there was a terrible noise coming from the front left. I noticed that it was only from the front left wheel, it was stopping alright and it varied with speed (it rattled more the faster i was going). On the way back it just stopped for about 20min i didn't notice it then it came back just not as bad. By the way its a 2.2 LS with under 15000. My friend thinks its a warped rotor but i though i'd ask and see what you guys say.

Thanks

Are you sure its the brakes?

This sounds like the noise a bad wheel bearing makes. Is it like an awful groaning noise? Does it happen only when you apply the brakes?

The fact that it gets worse as you accelerate is also a telltale sign of a bad wheel bearing.
