Brake replacement tips?
[UPDATE] Brake replacement tips --> Now with my tips
I need to replace my front rotors (warped) <~ not my fault... they screwed up my wheel installation, and brake pads. I've done many sets of brakes, so I don't foresee any problems, but if theres anybody else that has done this already, are there any funny tricks or tools needed for this job?
[UPDATE] Well, I completed this task, and I have to say the coblat (LS) is one of the easiest brake jobs I've ever done.
Tools required: 19mm socket, 15mm socket, 10mm socket or wrench, small screwdriver.
Steps:
Remove the wheel.
There will be two small "lock washers" holding the brake rotor on. Pry these off with the screwdriver and throw them away; they are vestigial.
On the backside of the caliper are two hex bolts (15mm) holding the caliper on. Remove these bolts completely.
Open the bleed valve using the 10mm wrench. Remove the rubber top, save. Pry the calipers apart, brake fluid will exit the bleed valve. Remove the caliper from the rotor and set it on something, do not let it dangle from the brake line.
Remove the old rotor, and slide the new one on. Pry the old brake pads out of the caliper with the screwdriver.
Now, the tricky part, the piston has to be forced back into the caliper. I did it with my hands, it is easier to use a C clamp though (about a 4" clamp should do it).
Put the new pads in, put it back together. Get a buddy to push your brake pedal until fluid starts coming out of the bleed valve in a stream, then close the valve. Put the rubber cap back on and you're good to go.
skill level required 2/5.
