Broke a strut tower bolt!

When i put my springs on I was at a autocraft shop on post and you have to pay by the hour and springs arent that long a job maybe 1.5 hrs tops but i was rushing trying to get it done since the rate is almost 5 bucks a hour and i put my bolts back in with a air gun like a idiot and snapped one, anyone have a idea where i can find a new bolt or do i have to buy a whole new strut now just to replace the bolt?

nope you need a whole new top mount. they are "studs" they break very easily. search around there are many threads about that. if you get it from a dealer it will be in the 50-80 dollar range with nuts.

well... hopefully that will be a lesson to you. spend extra 2 mins to torque them at $5 an hour, or now spend more time and money to fix the problem you created. tsk tsk.

yeah i learned that lesson. just hand tighten them from now on. once it gets flush with the body give it a half turn and leave it.

yea it was a lesson well learned, now im gonna have to find some where to take the strut to get the spring loosend and put the new top mount on and put it back on my car again, anyone know if thats a serious issue with only one bolt being out or is it something thats not so bad, ive been driving on it now for a few weeks and i wont hit turns too hard because im aware of it and dont want anything to happen.

I broke one too before, it sucks cause the dealership raged that I was lowerd, but my dad was the one who did it at his shop, so I got it fixed from his work under warrenty. Good luck finding one. You can get a strut cheap with military discount fyi

yea you wouldnt think so but it can get kinda expensive if you lolly gag around instead of doing what you came to do and get the hell outta there, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and I think that day I only had 15 bucks to my name so I had to get it done and get out. I got my mom checken the parts department at the dealership to see how much a new mount is...(she was also my salesperson)

you should have waited till you had a bit more cash. I wouldn't have spent my last 15 on a lift, and have to rush to get it done... If you do thing right the first time you won't have to go back and fix mistakes.

i already have the new mount but i also have some bolts but i just really dont feel like taking that **** all apart all over again right now and i need a wheel alignment like crazy, i think what im gonna do is just get an alignment and see how it goes and if need be then ill change the mount but if not im gonna take that mount back and get my 53 bucks back and buy some beers.

that bolt holds your suspension... 3 bolts, holds like a triangle, if you take one out, the other two could bend or cause further damage, wow you're stupid... just fix it

yea i should have, but ive been there and was working on my car or someone elses car and sometimes you bullshit and lolly gag around talking to other people and taken your sweet ass time that before you know it $3-$5 bucks a hour comes out to 50 bucks and your like "crap...i only came in here to change oil"

all in all it was a huge lesson learned tho i wont ever do anything like that again.
