Wink Cobalt struts...

Hey guys I'm looking into lowering my car on springs. I've been told that if I get lowering springs I'm going to need new struts as well, I've been told that some SS struts on my LS would do the trick instead of going out and buying some $600 aftermarket struts...

My brother works at a car parts place and I'm trying to get him to order me in some SS struts... BUT he told me that the struts on the cobalts changed from the 06' to the 08' year and basically that older struts won't work on my 08'

My question is this does anyone know if the struts will absolutely not work or is it just a slight change that will still allow me to put 06' struts on my 08'?

NOTE: Sorry if this is a repost tried searching and came up dry.

This is false. All Cobalt struts are interchangeable, You can put '05 struts on an '09 and '09 struts on an '06, etc, etc.....

Aftermarket struts are actually probably all the same, regardless of suspension package though. Meaning no differwence in a strut for an LS and an SS.

I say just run your stock struts till/if they blow. no need to replace them simply because your putting on springs.

Cool thanks.

But I'd rather go ahead and change the struts/springs toether so I won't have to worry about it later...that way I'd only have to do it once,.

depends on how much you are lowering the car. iv had my eibach sportline springs on stock struts for almost 2 years now, and they are still good. but "some" people with lower springs tend to have issues. my only complaint is that a small pot-hole feels like hitting a damn cinder block. but thats really any lowered car, and scrape like a ****. so be prepared!

Gotcha... I'm looking for something like a 2" drop in the front and 2.5" in the rear

So basically in SS standards it would be a 1" and a 1.5" drop cuz the LS sits about an inch higher than the SS
