Coil spring issue

I have noticed a popping sound coming from the drivers side when you turn the wheel. I got the girlfriend to turn while I tried to located the noise. The coil spring is moving and almost looks like when it catches up it snaps. I am assuming it is a broken coil spring or its not seated properly. Just making sure there is nothing else I missed?

Is it turning independently of the strut? The whole assembly by design does rotate as one when the wheel is turned. It's easily removed so you can inspect it. Usually noise from the front comes from sway bar endlinks or control arm bushings

New spring install or ones that you have had on the car for awhile?

Previous owner has the car lowered so it is unknown what kind of springs they are, if they are cut or whatever else. And the coil will rotate with the assembly and its almost like it will catch on steel and you can watch it stop and go\ snap until the wheel stops turning (to the right).

if nothing is broke and everything is all tight try greasing the top of the spring seat or spray the spring down with some lithium grease and see if it rotates easier when turning...

with the car on the ground pop the hood and watch the top of the strut bearing on that side. have your GF turn the wheel and wiggle it alot. if it behaves oddly or moves in a way that it prolly shouldnt that would be what i tried fixing first.
