The Coilover Thread!
#228
i just installed my bc coilovers, the front is slammed, the back is still as high as my sportlines. i first removed shocks, put the bc springs to the lowest setting, dropped the car with them in alone and the rear of the car was just as high as sportlines, then i proceded to adjust the coilovers for rear to make them the shortest possible. after the install, the rear is still the same height as the sportlines. I know the problem is the springs, will the springs settle and go lower? i have not taken out any of the rings in the back yet. i dont think i should have too. since there suppose to be there.

Haz l33t wheelz.
you asked me all this same stuff yesterday....
Taking the rings out won't hurt anything. Cobalts were just not meant to be low.
I've removed EVERYTHING fromt the rear on 2 cars now, who are running just springs, and they aren't having any issues.

I have the rear shocks at the lowest setting, the perches can still lower the rear .3", and without the rings you can get probably half an inch, maybe more. So, you can get 1 more inch of additional drop in the rear (pretty low to me) but with the unfriendly bounciness for sure. I think the best thing to do is to raise the front a little (avoid the headaches), that's the only way you can get a leveled stance with the rear perfectly preloaded on these coilovers, you'll have about an inch and a half of wheel gap ( 2 finger gap) , still a bit lower than the sportlines in the back according to measurements. I really like the drop that BC provides( without taking anything off the rear), but I understand the need some people have for the slammed look. I'm running 235/35/19 tires, I think it gives me .4" more in overall diameter filling in the gap with .2" . I think the coils drop the car 1.5" in the rear and the sportlines drop 1.3" in the rear on ss models.

Your coilovers are fine, that's the way the rears were built, less ride sacrifice I guess (6k linear/front and 6k progressive/rear). If you get rid of the locking rings, you will have bounce issues. The problem is that the rear shocks can't be adjusted that low, you won't be able to pair them up with the springs, they won't fit snug in the spring seat when they're being installed.

interesting. i took out both collars in the back today. it dropped it like half inch. im guessing after i drive on them for a bit, the springs will drop a bit more(i hope). i running 225/40/18. when i searched cobalt coilovers, stance looks lower in the back, d2 looks lower, aswell as some other brands. i thought they'd all be pretty much the same drop.
how come they didnt make the rears go lower?

so are the stance and d2 rear coilover shocks shorter then bc? or can i just get smaller springs, or will the springs settle lower, i have both collars out and im just lower then sportlines.
i really wish i got stance now. owell

I have all my collars in on the front and I have the fender on the tire, barely fit a finger in sideways, and thats with 17's. The rears I took out all the locking rings and its even maybe a hair lower then the front. I want to take a ring out in the front and call it a day. I Just need to find the time...

Just installed some Stances.
I have all locking rings installed. I even have the top rubber insulator on the top of the rear coils for noise reduction. It rubs pretty well in the front on the plastic inner liner. I need to get it aligned still, but the ride quality over my kSport coils is night and day! And it's no wonder why:
