I was watching a review on the G8 GXP and the rep from GM said the suspension on the G8 was the FE3 suspension. Is this the same set up that the 2.4 cobalt had with some adjustments I'm guessing or is it a completely different set up with the name carrying over.

The setup is not the same its just the rating system GM uses. Basically they go FE1 (least sporty) to FE5 (most sporty).

The suspensions:
Starting with the FE1, and then the changes with each up-level system

FE1 suspension
19-mm front stabilizer bar
16-mm rear stabilizer bar
Stamped steel front lower control arms

FE3 suspension
22-mm front and rear stabilizer bars
Cast aluminum front lower control arms
FE3 shocks and springs

FE5 suspension - 2005-07 years
24-mm front stabilizer bar
FE5 shocks and struts. The springs may be different from some FE3 models.
Larger front end links

FE5 suspension - 2008 and up years
24-mm rear stabilizer bar
NEW FE5(LNF) shocks, struts, and springs.
Updated front knuckle

The G8 is a large 4whl independent suspension rear wheel drive vehicle. The Cobalt is a compact with a semi independent twisting beam and front wheel drive.

No its not the same, its just the same RPO code.
