First time needing rotors and break pads

i need my front rotors and break pads replaced. would i come out cheaper if i bought the parts and then had someone instal them for me? i dont do anything to my cobalt its all stock so i just need the basics nothing fancy but i want them to last for a long time. so what brands are best to use and is there something special i should be looking for when buying them.

Thank You

I put on ebc dimpled slotted rotors and hawk hps pads a few days ago, and they are great. It was an easy install
