if u want to go cheap, get lowering springs and rear sway bar. That will give u alot of improvement.

honestly these cars handle great. it could be crappy tires on yours, great tires on his. like has been said before get a rear swaybar and some drop springs you wont believe how well this car goes around corners

i used to drive a dropped miata before. its just that i feel the steering is numb a bit...

like the handling itself seems good i guess but the responsivness of the steering isnt. i guess thats what i meant.

i had a blown shock changed it, but i bought new tires and they are sloppier than the stock ones (pirrelli)

Compared to a rwd Miata, a fwd Cobalt has the steering feel of a dump truck - nature of the fwd beast.
Can generate near the same cornering levels with the Balt but it will never have that nice feedback of a rack and pinion rwd car.

What tires (brand, model, size, pressure) did you get? The stock Pirelli's are not too bad (wear out too quick but no surprise) but if you replaced them with Walmart specials and run the pressures too low, they will not keep up performance wise.

As pointed out above, lower it, add a rear bar (don't go too big unless you like snap oversteer ), decent tires and alignment - should be able to get some good handling out of it
