I was driving my cobalt the other day and it made a horrid noise (sounded like it was the shocks). About a year ago when I had my tires rotated they said my shocks were leaking. It doesn't bounce when I go over bumps. What is the problem?

 

Unfortunately what you described is way to vague. Try jacking the car up and checking for oil around the strut cartridge. Does it sound like metal to metal? Does the noise only happen in the cold? More information would be great.

I looked and it was hard to tell since it was raining today and it snowed just a few days ago so the shocks were dirty. It was cold when this happened.

 

if it was cold then the noise is normal till the shocks "warm up"

 

When it is cold out my shocks normally make a creeking noise as well. The mounts are just flexing and because its cold it makes a rubbing sound

 

ok. This was the first time I have heard it so I was freaking out, was not wanting to dish out money for new shocks.

I've heard a moaning sound from mine when reversing after a cold start only.
Maybe you can record a clip of the sounds it makes.

 

Yea the first few bumps on a cold day sound wretched.. then it goes away.
