intermediate shaft slight play

I've had a knocking noise that would speed up with acceleration on the passenger side. Since I replaced pretty much everything but the axle I'm almost certain its the cv joints. My question is while getting ready to pull the axle I found slight play in the intermidiate shaft on both the lsd side and axle side. It seems to be only slight play like you can feel the bearing shifting. Its not leaking any fluid or anything. Is this normal?

Hi happygil0303,

We understand you've had some trouble with a knocking noise while accelerating and our apologies for any frustration this has caused. Although we're unable to technically advise towards a fix, we're happy to look further into this matter, or connect you with a local service team that can assist. Good luck with repairing everything and if you have any further questions just send us your VIN.

Well I pulled the axle and I have a question. I took some pictures so hopefully somebody would chime in. The inner part of the axle where the ribs are that go into the intermidiate shaft there is some sought of clip that I'm not sure is broken or not. I really can't tell. Is this gap suppose to be present in this clip?

Yup normal. New axle comes with a new clip. Don't remove em. They secure the axle in the trans/shaft.
