Just installed sportlines, quick question....

So a few days a go I had my Sportlines installed and they ride great, and look even better, however, last night I was riding around and heard a weird noise coming from the rear of the car. Every time I hit a decent sized bump, there would be like a squeaking / squoosh type sound.

Has anyone ever had this before, or anyone have any idea what it may be?

they stop the "squeak" that can be heard when the springs touch under pressure.

i would make sure everything is tight, the spring is fully seated, and in the right way.

I dont think so and I certainly hope not, they only have 8000 on them.

I am starting to wonder if maybe I didnt take enough off of the bump stops???

that would make more of a thump than a squeak. look at my above post.

on the install they tell you to use the rubber from on your new springs that could be the noise you hear

I have the SAME problem since the day i installed my sportlines and I could never figure it out. I checked the seating and everthing...never checked the rubber on the spring though? Could be a shock too cuz its only on the rear right side...

after taking a 2nd look at the first post it just may be the sound of the rear shock compressing. when you go over bumps, you will hear a rush of air as the shocks compress/decompress.

Would I have heard this with the stock springs? This is the first I have noticed it.

So I just went out for lunch, and I was driving with the radio off to see if I could better tell where this noise is coming from. I was unable to figure that out, but I did notice that there is also a squeaking noise when there is a flex in the body of the car, like when making a turn onto a street that is at a higher incline then the street you turned off of. Kinda confusing, but thats the only way I could think to explain it.

a very common thing is to hear, see, or even feel things that "weren't there" before you did your install. what happens, is that after you install something, you're more aware of any sounds or feelings that happen, and you automatically assume it has something to do with the parts.

Well hopefully I can get it checked out this week sometime. I am still kinda thinking the bump stops may not have been cut short enough. Now that I think about it, we didnt cut the fron ones at all, could this create a problem?

i've done springs on many cobalts, never cut the front, and never had an issue. I always cut the back though, if you're looking at it the way it sits you cut to the first ridge usually, depending on the springs. that should be in the instructions though.

Mine squeaks from the right rear also after installing springs. It only does it at slow crawling speeds such as going into a driveway, etc.

I have 49k on my stock struts, the car has been lowered on Sportlines almost 2 years, and I carpool with up to 5 people in my car at a time, and my stock struts are still holding up, so I doubt its his struts, lol.

I really don't think it is the struts, they only have like 8k on them. I need to get with Steve and see if we can figure out what this is.

So today I went and got my car aligned and I also had the shop that did the alignment look over the springs to make sure they were installed correctly and sure enough they were. I decided when I got home to jack the car up and make sure everything was tight in the rear, since that is where the noise is coming from, and everything is good, but I still have the squeaking noise.

The noise is only coming from the passenger side on the rear, so while it was in the air, I pushed upwards under the spring to make it compress and it made the sound. It seems that it is happening when the spring is compressing and the coils are rubbing together, even though I did leave the plastic sleeves on to prevent this.

Has anyone had the same issue, or does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this?
