Knuckle swap question.
Knuckle swap question.
So I'm finally getting around to changing my knuckle which has been bent for a while now. Found a lot of info on swapping the axles but nothing on the knuckle alone.
I want to know if I am going to have to do anything with the axle. Can I slide the knuckle off, away from the car, without really messing with the axle? Is there anything I should know before starting this. I just don't want to start and have something go wrong if I can avoid it. I plan on it taking maybe an hour to do, sound right?

Its not difficult. You'll need to remove the big 30mm nut on the end of the axle, then get the splined end of the axle free of the wheel bearing hub assembly (might need a puller if you have a lot of rust, but otherwise it should be easy). Remove the two large bolts at the top of the knuckle and the bolt at the bottom for the ball joint. Remove the knuckle from the car but try not to pull or let the axle sag too much (ie, tie it up with wire or something, just like you did with your brake caliper - you did properly tie up your caliper didn't you?). Swap the wheel bearing hub over to the new knuckle and reinstall in reverse order.
Thanks css. I did it yesterday and took maybe half an hour. Sprayed some wd40 on all the nuts and bolts prior to and they all came out real easily.
I just heard that the axle could drop if your not careful, didnt want that to happen.
