loud calnk and rattle from the rear

anyone had any problems with the rear shocks going out after you lower your car? I have the progress springs on mine and the past few days ive got a loud banging noise when i hit bumps. couple of my buddies listened to it from outside the car, they said its the shock. any suggesstions on good replacements or just go to dealer and buy a new one?

what trim of cobalt are you, and a good way to tell if your shock is bad is drive over a bump and if the back end continues to bounce you have a bad shock, another way is open the trunk and bounce up and down on it and then let go if it continues for a while its bad, if it stops almost instantly its still good.

its a '10 ss/tc. the dealer looked at it and they said its my spring, so i may swap my springs back to stock and see if the noise stops. 80 bucks for a new one from the dealer. its just the constant loud clank bang noise, doesnt ride rough just the noise is annoying as hell lol

well the thing you have to remember is changing any part out for an aftermarket one will change how the rest of the car reacts to certain conditions. if you had searched there are alot of people (including myself) that have gotten a clunking from the rear end after going with many differen't springs. the shocks are fine. i remember a thread where one guy had a theory that it was coil slap (where the springs were hitting each other over bumps) which makes a fair amount of sense considering the noise has happened to even cars that don't have many miles on the rear shocks.

that guy put rubber tubing around the springs to dampen the effect and lessen the noise. first thing to do to verify that it is in fact your springs would be to put a spring holder on them and go drive it. if the noise is gone then its your springs slapping around.
