lowered SS = low speed vibrations on passenger side

come on lets get all the facts here and get this issue fixed once and for all.

interesting finds so far, axel binds on passenger side. rotated mounts front or rear or both?

so far nearly all cobalts ss/sc on this forum that are lowered are having this issue of vibrating at low speeds up to 10kmph.

i have tc struts and shocks, with SSC springs. since day 1 i have this vibration on the passenger side, to try and resolve this problem i have done the following, new wheels bearing, new endlinks, new sway bar bushings, new brake rotors and calipers, new axels new axle bearing. and control arm bushing.

will the rotated mounts solve this problem?

theres gotta be a solution to axle bind without going back to stock height

in another post one mentionned he got both front and rear rotating mounts and it solved his problem. makes sense since its probably because of the axles beign in a different angle those mounts are supposed to lift the axles back to normal and still keep the car low, plus it gets rid of wheel hopping

someone claims to have done this

"Probably depends how low you go. Should get rack spacers too, if you went way low.

edit - I'm only on Pedders. I bought both from Powell, and got rack spacers too. Smooooth as buttah. They're so easy to put in, too."

i am willing to try these rotated mounts, but i want more like this guy to confirm because i have already spent thousands replacing everything in the front...

next weekend i will reinstall carefully and replace the strut mount on the passenger side, also i have to see if they put the longer or shorter links because i have the turbo setup (struts and shocks) apparently i was reading more about this and the endlinks are shorter on the TC

i was supposed to change my strut mmount this weekend but i need swaybar links and they are only getting in tomorow at the store, today i did a little comparing of the rubber inside and compared to the drivers side the rubber inside is turned about 30 degrees compared to the new one and the drivers side

wondering if this is my problem i get to change it this week im off wednesday/thursday

tires. if you ever take it to the track, put some high profile tires on with something like 16" wheels. other than that, the trans mounts do help a lot. also practice practice practice.

i used to be on h&r race springs, i had horrbile driveline vibrations. it was bad when you load the motor such as going up a hill in 4th gear, or step on it hard, but it could be felt most times when even accelerating normally. cornering while going up a hill in 4th gear would make it worse, makes sense as one side would lean making the driveline angle worse on that side. if i was cruising along and dropped a gear or 2, the vibration would be there but not as bad, here its because when you accelerate that hard the front end will lift (suspension droops) and the driveline angle will flatten out.

i did try powell mounts, they helped but not that much. the fix was to raise the car back up. the h&r springs were showing a 2.25" front drop, and the driveline angle was terrible with them. i installed pedders springs last week and the vibrations were gone, as i suspected they would be.

all the vibration is caused by the driveline angles causing the axles to bind. the end result is if you want a moderate drop get some rotated mounts and it will help take care of most of the vibrations. if you want to slam the car, well you need some way to flatten out the driveline angle to keep the axles from binding. the current rotated mounts arent going to be the fix, however it gets far more complex if you want to rotate the motor further. you will start running into clearance issues between the rear mount and the floor, and the supercharger to the rad support. the upper mounts wont give enough and something custom needs to be done there. you also have to consider transaxle fluid levels, along with the engine oil pickup. with the motor rotated forward too far the oil pickup could be uncovered in certain situations and you end up with oil starvation. in the gm drag cars the motor is rotated forward 22 degrees. a custom oil pan and transmission pan had to be built to work with this. its an extreme case, but those are the sorts of issues that arise from this sort of thing.

no this isnt a track issue its just that im getting a small wobble type vibration on the passenger side, but now im thinking its the strut mount... since the rubber is not lined up like the drivers side
