Lowering Springs

Just a quick question to anyone who lowered their cars. When I put the struts back together there was absolutely no tension on the spring. Is that normal for lowering springs or what? Basically it moves on the strut itself.

On that note, is there any sort of aftermarket strut that would be a bit shorter or something/

They won't be completely free, easier to put together but not like that.

I bought them off a Cobalt enthusiasts group locally. There's a little tension on them, but not much at all. I can twist them easily with the load off.

I'll see if I can grab a picture sometime over the next day or so, I know the right ones are in the back and the front.

I'm wondering if they are just too short, I didn't have to compress them at all to get them onto the strut after taking off the old ones

If I recall correctly I used the spring compressor to put them back on the struts too, so there must have been some tension. And as far as I know all the aftermarket struts would be the same length (unless coilovers) in order to make it fit properly with the rest of the stock suspension.

Just an FYI: I'm going to be getting rid of some CM springs locally soon if it comes to that.

yeah I'm guessing these were some junk springs. After adjusting them a bit they're fine until they unload completely around a tight turn where the car leans. I figure the car is pretty much sitting on nothing as the springs don't seem great. Will be looking into buying a set then.

they may be worn out. Powell loves to tell his story about the worn out used CM springs that came out in the rear after he installed them in a customer's car
