Newbie Member Spring Question

Hello all
Well, after hours of searching the net I cannot find an answer to my question. First off, I do not have a SS so hope there won't be any flaming for that . Next, what I do have is a 2006 Cobalt LT with the "sport package" and the 16" aluminum wheels. I am not a mechanical or automotive newbie, been an ASE Tech for over 10 years and have always been a car nut. Anywho, my question. I just snagged a set of stock springs from a non-supercharged SS, the 2.4L model. My original thought was the SS Cobalts received a different spring package and thus, a lower factory ride height. Figured for what I paid for these SS springs, they'd be worth a try. Well, now that I cannot verify anything concerning ride height of the SS cars, am worried the springs won't accomplish anything. I was told that these SS springs will lower a stock/base Cobalt 1.0 to 1.500 overall. Sooooooooo, can any of the SS gurus verify this?? Any insight would be great. Thinking if nobody knows the answer, I'll just throw the rear springs in from the SS and see what happens. If it lowers it, then I'll do the fronts. If it doesn't change.......... I just wasted a few bux!

hmm... i know if its off the ss/sc it would lower it... but I can't vouch for the ss/na springs... although I'd think they were the same. Did you check websites like eibach's about info for our cars (ex: lowers this car so much and this model so much)

Your would be changing from FE1 suspension springs to FE3. Yes, they are lower, by about what you said.

Kewl, so I might yield a 1.0 to 1.500 drop out of the FE3 springs eh? We shall see. As stated first post, that back is easy enough to swap springs in I'll do it first and see what we get. I don't wanna slam it or anything, just close up the ghey fender to tire gap. Those little 205/55-16's look like bicycle tires in the fenderwells. Plus, this is my wife's car and I can't slam it 2 inches or anything, she has to drive it . I have a daily driver (S10) that is dropped 4" front and 4.5" rear, is nice for a daily, just gotta pay attention to the terrain I did go through Eibach's site and it does appear from their info that stock SS springs will lower a LT/Base 1.0 to 1.500 maybe?

Thanks for the insight! I got my fingers crossed for scoring a 1.0 to 1.5 drop with these SS (non-supercharged) springs. Thanks again!!

Hey, not to overtake the thread...but how long do you think it'll take before it wears the struts out? Did you do anything else once you got those springs on Halfcent?

Well, the springs showed up Friday. Had time today to throw the back ones in and see what I'd end up with. Uh huh........ that was worth it. Got about .625 out of the SS springs. Ohhhhhhhhhhhh well, it did kinda sorta get rid of the rake. Only gave $70 shipped for the full set of springs so it isn't a big deal. It appears to have gotten it to sit level though which is really all I was lookin' for.

Thanks for helps guys, appreciate it.
