Probably a simple answer any help is welcome

i just got my zzp strut bar which i thought would be extremely easy to install. of course not. im trying to take off the nuts on the strut mount so that i can put the bar on and put the nuts back on. only problem is....im trying to loosen the nuts and the studs are spinning with the nut. how am i supposed to stop the stud/bolt from spinning?
anything helps. thanks

thats not good, Those studs on the strut should not be free, so either its spline is stripped or tack weld is broken (however its secured)

You are looking at the 3 smaller nuts right? Not the big one in the center. If the three outer ones are free spinning, it means they broke the studs and are using bolts instead. That's a total PITA. I mean, it works, but it's a PITA. Those nuts should only be hand tightened. Look for the specs.

If hes doing the strut bar, it has to be the 3-10mm nuts, Those studs should not move freely, have you ever removed them? sounds to me that they were over torqued or its a factory defect?

I bet they used an air ratchet or impact wrench on those and snaped them .

^ thats my thought exactly. I had a shop strip a wheel stud due to them using a air ratchet, then they wanted to charge ME 100$ to fix it, I ended up leaving and doing it myself for 5BUCKS!

Same thing happened to me before. Thankfully, it was on my winter beater and not the Cobalt. You do not start a bolt with an air rachet. Jack asses at tire places are all about speed and getting the job done fast. They dont care about doing things right, and hand starting the bolts/lugs. 4 out of the 5 studs were stripped. I could have lost the wheel and gotten in an accident if I didnt notice.

Sorry to hear about all the BS you gotta go through just to make your car handle better. Majority of the mechanics I have met recently are idiots & I learned long ago to do things yourself because they dont give a **** about your car they are gettin paid either way.

hey it's ecot3c inside, yes I defiantly agree. they do the job as fast as they can so they can get more money on the book hours. very sloppy most of the time.. I swear the next time I see the dealer mechanic not torque my lug bolts and uses his impact I'm gonna flip a lid.

360/XBL FTW!
I take mine in for an oil change thats it & thats just in case somthing happens they know the car was well kept & brought in for oil changes & inspection. I could do it myself but this helps me sleep at night lol.
Everytime I take it into the dealer I stay in the service station w/my face stuck on the window watching that son of a bitch like a hawk
They always ask me if I would like to go to the inside lobby & relax on the couch or recliners & watch tv or get some coffee or doughnuts. I always tell them "no I am good this windex doesnt taste that bad anyways" but both service guys know me & also know my car is like my first born & if the mechanic ***** up I will know. Its just an oil change so any of them monkeys should be able to handle that but I still don't like other ppl working on my car unless they are close friends.

Sorry for the thread jack OP, I am sure many others on here are the same though when it comes to watching over their cars.

I refuse to take my car to the shop, except one shop, which I have known the guy for over 10 years, and he is the only one that will touch my car.. And I only take it to him if it's something I can't do in the back yard with some jacks and the tools I have..
