Rear axle bushings

Has anyone changed these out, and if so is there a how-to? I checked but could not find it. Only thread I've found is this - https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/susp...shings-301971/ - however I have no idea what the "kent moore" tool is or what specifically I need it for. I'm looking to replace mine, but I have no idea how to go about it.

I'm not sure if there's a how-to per se, but there are a couple people that have changed out their rear axle beam bushings...

The Kent Moore tool is needed to change out the bushing. You have a couple options, I'm not sure if companies like Moog make them... so you can get OEM bushings or some Powell rear beam axle bushings. The latter option is a bit pricier, but Powell will include the Kent Moore tool to swap out the bushings, you would just need to return the tool once you are done.

Halfcent also replaced his bushings, you can check out his thread below:

Just get the powell bushings and be done with it forever, their $400 (a bit over double the OEM) but will never give you issues again.

I don't doubt Powell's quality, but I don't have 400 to throw around on bushings. I can get Moog axle bushings for 28 bucks each.

07Blac, can you point me in the right direction for the tool? There are apparently a million and one tools associated with the Kent Moore name. I have no idea which one I need.

Thanks

Yes you did lol, they usually run for about $100.

I believe this is the correct model: Kent Moore J-44570-A

Lets put it this way, there's a replacement that'll offer a benefit to handling and although more expensive will never fail. Then that's what's going on my car nothing worse, do it right once and be done with it.

he gets it, powells stuff is top notch ... but not everyone has $400 laying around for 2 bushings, like you Big Man, or uses their car as a race car.

he is looking for the tool and a cheap stock replacement part.

Thank you. And it's not like Moog parts are crap. They are better than stock and almost always cheaper.

Intel's part number was right, but the cheapest on E-bay at the moment is 110 shipped.

I'm not in a hurry though so I'll keep my eyes open for a deal. Or maybe I can find a way to borrow one. It's unlikely that I'll ever need to use it again.

Does Advance or any local auto parts store have that tool for rental by any chance? You might want to also see if a tech at a local dealership will press in those bushings for you for like $20-$30.

I remember ZZP used to do basically the same thing some years back when everyone and their brother was swapping out pulleys for their s/c. The pulley puller by itself was a little over 100 bucks. It's certainly great for the community.
