Rear toe alignment

Rear toe alignment

I went to get my car aligned today and it came back with a rear right toe of .37 while the norm is supposed to be from -.03 to 0.28

Does anyone have any experience shimming the rear end to correct for this? any and all pointers would be appreciated!

my toe is off too in the rear.. you basically cant adjust it w/o using shims which i would stay away from...

besides .37 is fine. mine is close to that and i got 40,000 miles on the rear tires with no wierd wear or anything. ive heard of lots of ppl having this rear toe issue when getting aligned, but i havent heard of bad tire wear from it ever.

Short answer is no, you cant align the rear. Long answer is yes, if its drum and you have a mechanic willing to figure it out.

Realistically unless you are a mechanic, leave it be.

wait. how do u know wat ur toe is without putting it on an alignment rack? ha. and i dont beleive these cars have a rear toe adjustment. in which case u cant do much about it. ur is only off by a little. the only time i ever see an alignment **** up tire wear is if it is off by a cercumstancial amount or each side is off at the same time. i think ud be ok with the way it is now.

I went to get it aloigned yesterday and that's what the guys at the shop told me. Technically I am a mechanic, just not a car mechanic :p and I will prolly just leave this alone for now and try to keep an eye on things

So..., the basic answer is that the toe is probably OK. You 'might' see a littel extra tire wear, but not likely.

However, I have mine shimmed to -1.55 degrees of negative camber on each side and it works just fine. You do need to find a quality shop with quality people to do the shimming -- but this applies to anything.

what was the other side measuring at? The twb can be moved to make it centred on the front, thats not the way its assembled at the factory. Loosen the three bolts that secure the twb each side and square the car that way to the front. Then retorque the bolts.

And Scott is right.

But if you modify the rear beam to accept a standalone caliper bracket it becomes stronger and you can adjust camber and toe that way without worrying about caliper /pad alignment. But that is not needed for street use for sure.
